Just listening to the news on MSNBC.. In NYC, wall street is getting the H1N1 vaccine, but the hospitals and doctors in NYC can't/

These vaccines are distributed locally.

What the hell is wrong with these people.

The wall street boys and girls are at low risk for H1N1

Pregnant Women and children under 5 need it pronto.

Whose screwed up priorities are these? :grr:

Large NYC employers getting swine flu vaccine

NEW YORK — Some of New York City's largest employers — including Wall Street firms like Goldman Sachs and big universities — have started receiving doses of the much-in-demand swine flu vaccine for their at-risk employees.

The government-funded vaccine is being distributed to states, where health departments decide where to send the limited doses. In New York, health officials are allowing businesses with onsite medical staff to apply for the vaccine.

the flu vaccine has to go to high risk groups only (pregnant women, those with underlying medical conditions that put them at risk etc). The reason firms are getting the vaccine is that they applied to be part of the program. The idea was to give it to as many providers as possible to get it out to as many people as possible. The CDC may have dropped the ball in terms of prioritizing sites, the vaccine is still going to those in most need.

I think it should be for doctors and hospitals to decide who gets the limited supply, not some HR department.

They gave the vaccine to doctors' offices first.

It's childcare providers. I take that to mean daycare workers. Otherwise, wouldn't all parents be given priority...fathers and mothers?

That's the problem. Goldman and Citi got it ahead of many hospitals and clinics. Goldman and Citi employees should go to the doctor and wait in line like everyone else. The administration's decision to partner with a few chosen private firms to distribute vaccine to their special employees looks like more crony corporate favoritism.

They gave it to DOCTORS at those companies, who can only give it to especially high-risk people.

This is AFTER they made it available to pediatricians and OB-GYNs.

And the administration did not partner with anyone--this was the NY health authority. And again, they made it available to all large employers with on-site medical staff, which mostly means hospitals and universities.

The fact is that many large employers (corporations, universities, government agencies) have in-house health units staffed by health care professionals who are qualified to determine who is at higher risk for H1N1.
