1. That wouldn't be a bad thing
..if they totally scrapped the current piece of shit bills and started over with HR 676, or at the very least, the Howard Dean version of the actual public option.

16. +1.

The "reform" (or rather, deform) doesn't kick in until 2013 anyway, so i'm not sure how significant this current delay is.

My personal preference would be to abort this travesty of a reform now, and start over with HR 676.

2. You and Big Ed might want to do a bit more reading....

Why the MSM is continuing to promote this story IN SPITE of Reid shooting them down is beyond me.

10. I just wrote Ed asking him to LEAD OFF tonight with the news about NY-23
... and NOT about the Democratic losses in NJ and VA. Asked him to talk about how the voters of upstate NY delivered the electoral smack down to conservative Republican ideology. (crossing my fingers!)

9. Unfortunately, with the election results, and some shaky Dem's to begin with,
we will either not get anything passed with a public option or we will get reform in name only, so that it looks like a win for the president. I don't see Reid being able to convince the moderate Dem's to go along with this now. They will be to concerned about being to closely associated with the President.
However, if Pres. Obama's economic recovery moves along quickly and creates much needed jobs, this will give our party a big boost and we will be able to accomplish something. But, right now, I am pessimistic about getting anything passed because the Repubs think they have hit on a winning strategy-obstruction,fear and delay - and moderate Dem's will not sign their name to anything progressive fearful of the independent and conservative voters. Sadly, we progressive Dem's mean little to these people.

18. I think that Obama would have been advised to move insurance reform to the #2 spot on his agenda
after the economy completely tanked during the 2008 elections.

Get the economy going first (and don't pick folks like Geithner and Summers who are beholden to some of the perpetrators), then go for programs that are seen as costing $$$ (whether Obama says otherwise or not).

Folks don't support big programs when there's nothing in their wallet or their relatives' and friends' wallets.

23. I think 75 or 80 Democrats in the Senate might be enough.

How many seats can be picked up in 2010 from Republicans?

Well, you just need to get all of those seats and you might have enough votes for a relatively strong public option .... or maybe not.
