Mr. Cuccinelli's bigotry
KENNETH CUCCINELLI, the Republican candidate for Virginia state attorney general, believes it's "appropriate" to formulate public policy on the premise that homosexuals engage in behavior that is "intrinsically wrong" and offensive to "natural law." His comments -- which retrofit the old rhetoric of racism, bias and intolerance in a new context -- were made in an interview with the Virginian-Pilot, a newspaper in Norfolk.

Homosexual acts, said Mr. Cuccinelli, currently a state senator, are "intrinsically wrong. And I think in a natural law-based country it's appropriate to have policies that reflect that. . . . They don't comport with natural law. I happen to think that it represents (to put it politely; I need my thesaurus to be polite) behavior that is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society."

Putting aside what Mr. Cuccinelli has to say about homosexuals when he's not trying so hard to be polite, let's call his comments what they are: bigotry. Bigotry is as pernicious today, applied to homosexuals, as it was a century ago or less, when immigrants and minorities were its main victims. And it is just as familiar. Appeals to "natural law" and "intrinsic" rights and wrongs were the usual cliches deployed to justify the old-time religion of hatred then directed at African Americans, Jews, Italians, Irish and other immigrants.

1. The problem with "natural law"
Is that it's barbaric, so mankind made "unnatural" laws to get around that.

Even if this moran thinks it's "unnatural" it doesn't harm him in any way.

5. And we can thank fucking Terry McAuliffe if the Repukes get back in here in VA. He split the dem
primary vote and left us with Mr. Deeds who isn't exactly what N. VA. has in mind for a Democratic Governor. I fear many of my fellow Dems in NVA won't bother to vote Tuesday, which is very wrong. They see him as part of the problem - a good ole boy from S. VA who would have never won the primary with the NVA voter impact on the state if McAuliffe hadn't decided to ENTER politics as Governor.

Sadly, both the local and nat'l press is saying the vote outcome is a referendum on Obama, not Deeds.

The entire Repuke ticket makes me ill. I've been working hard for the past few weeks calling everyone I know in NVA to make sure they'll go vote Tuesday. You'd be surprised at how many just figured the Dem would win even if they took a pass (since Obama took the state handily last year). Fools, all of us.

8. thanks for your efforts!
The Republican ticket is indeed a disaster waiting to happen, and I don't understand why no one in VA seems to care. I'm currently out of state finishing my degree (though I voted absentee in VA about a month ago), but I've been trying to get all my friends who are still registered in VA to vote in the election. It's been like pulling-teeth. People just don't pay attention or give a damn it seems.

The irony is that during primary season, people were complaining about Moran being "too negative."

Deeds ended up shooting himself in the foot by being, surprise, "too negative" - relying too much on that stupid college paper McDonnell wrote and not selling himself enough.

And you're right about McAuliffe.
