9. Look how far they came! Here's the original story and pic from the WH.
Planting the Garden
Posted by Jesse Lee on April 9, 2009 at 08:07 PM EDT

Today the First Lady hosted Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and students from Bancroft Elementary, in the White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn of the White House to plant the garden and highlight healthy eating. The same school participated in the groundbreaking of the Garden on March 20 and will return later this year for harvesting and cooking with the food grown.

(First Lady Michelle Obama and White House Chef Sam Kass show students from the Bancroft Elementary how to plant a garden. The White House Vegetable Garden was officially planted today.)

What a wonderful lesson for these kids - and all kids - about healthy foods and healthy eating.

4. That is one big sweet potato the First Lady held up.
We grew corn and pumpkins this year. My girls (4 and 5) absolutely loved it. We just carved the pumpkins we grew last night. The only thing is, we need to make more room for the pumpkins next year, the vines just grow really huge. I think many people can grow their own food. We did not have big back yard at all.

I read that a lot of schools around the country are doing this. Having students plant, tend and harvest fruits and veggies. What a terrific idea.

19. Why is she wearing that belt?!?
It looks more suitable for a goth, or perhaps for a Klingon going into battle. It's hardly gardening gear.
