GOP memo says "dems to ban Bible" ???
ok this is a little wierd

a few minutes ago there was a non-hyperlinked headline that there is a fundraising memos suggesting that Democrats intend to Ban the Bible.

There was not AP report underneath the headline and now that I hit refresh even the headline is gone.... WTF? anyway....it may come back again so watch for it..

1. Hell, the only people I know...
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 10:09 PM by liberalmuse
who bother to truly read, study and know the Bible are the atheists. Seriously, I know the Bible better than most Christians. LOL, it shocks many of them that such a heathen could outdo them in Bible verse.

Sheesh, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. When have liberals ever banned books? That's the reich wing's designated calling.

9. Now now
We must not genralize... many Christias are devout believers.. and while many are politically naive. they mean well...I am not defending them....ceratianly not their leadership...but my problem stems not from their politics but from their tact.

Not in the name of Jesus, but in the name of political power, they have pretty much suceeds in demomizing Norther Christians. and quite bluntly pushed them out of the church in the name of a crusade for a seat at the political table.

Democrats need Jesus too..no more so than republicans....and yet thy so villify the left that they in fact close the door to the proclamantion of the Gospel. It actually quite tragic and there will indeed ne Hell to pay.

2. That happened in West Virginia earlier today.....
...more BushShit to scare the fundies into not changing their votes to Kerry. Keep your bibles, keep your husbands and wives, ban homosexuality as a mortal sin and all will be saved. Oh, and one other thing, let us send your daughters and sons and grown grandkids to Iraq to fight and die for the war profiteers and oil companies so that the American way of life, the rich and extremely wealthy, will be preserved. The other benefit is that your grandkids by following this plan will never be Muslims and white supremacy will prevail. --- I'm George W. Bush and I approve thish messhage.

5. LOL but seriously
as a proud member of the Christian left....this is appalling if it is true that such a memo exist. I know many Bible Thumpers, good soulds though moderately rabid Repgblicans who would be disgusted by the existence of such a letter,

They would be offed that GOP leadership thought they were tha dumb.

I would antipate backlash and doubletalk if this rumor is actuall true. In some Christian circles it will actually be discusses as dishonorable and too far. won;t translate into mass defections ha ha but it is a hopeful start.

14. Well, the grand Bush strategy calls for the dumbing down...
... of America. This may be a progress test for the republicans to see how successful that strategy has been. I thought ear plugs were the answer to get me through and past the election, but it seems that dark glasses and perhaps a toxic protection suit may be much safer.

11. Yup. He's still working too.
I'm the DU Chick Observer. He's still in there.

This is because neither God nor Satan want him anywhere around them; hence he will live forever.

8. It doesn't matter if anybody ACTUALLY believes it, but it's a real
scary catchphrase. "Bible-Thumpers." "Bible-Burners." I think I'll send this story to http://www.faithfulamerica.org They sent me this a week, or two, ago:

FaithfulAmerica.org is an interfaith group with members from many traditions, but we wanted to tell you about a great campaign being run by our Christian friends at Sojourners.

Sojourners is responding to Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and others on the Christian Right who claim that God has taken a side in this election and that Christians should vote only for George W. Bush.

The campaign asks how the love of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and his good news to the poor, have been co-opted by the political agenda of the Religious Right.

If you feel like your faith has been hijacked, click below to sign the Sojourners petition and tell America that the Religious Right does not speak for you.

www.takebackourfaith.org/faithful

Sojourners' "God is Not a Republican. Or a Democrat" petition ran Monday, August 30th, as a full-page ad in The New York Times. It was also placed in the hometown papers of Falwell and Robertson. More than 45,000 people have signed the petition so far. You can donate and help continue to place the ad in newspapers across America - including your own.

When you sign the petition, you'll also have the chance to sign up for Sojourners' weekly updates and online newsletter. We highly recommend the Sojourners newsletter to you as one of the best publications around on faith, culture and politics.

12. Oh please!
I'm for FREEDOM OF and FREEDOM FROM religion. No banning books in my name, thank-you-very-much. Besides, as an atheist, the bible is the best book in my arsenal against fundamentalist Christianity. :)

15. The same Democratic Party that Overwhelmingly supported "Under God"
Two idiotic and ignorant assumptions are necessary to believe this memo:

1) The Democratic Party is controlled by secular atheists. Not even close, if you look at votes like the one I referred to in my subject title.

2) The majority of seculars, atheist or otherwise, would want to pass draconian anti-religious laws like banning bibles. The vast majority of seculars find such hypothetical laws reprehensible violations of freedom of belief and speech.
