"George Bush did not have a tyrant’s ego...he will be the last humble man to occupy the Oval Office"
Freeps pass gas in their "George W. Bush: Motivational Speaker" thread.

By his enemies you shall know him.

George Bush did not have a tyrant’s ego, which is why he will be the last humble man to occupy the Oval Office.

In some areas.

Even so, I’d kick Bambi to the curb and take W back in a New York minute. Wouldn’t even think twice about it.

I’d take W any day of the week over McCain too.

The man was a huge disappointment.

He did a few things very well - lowering taxes and the war on terror come immediately to mind.

Immigration? Spending? Not so much.

IMHO, history will remember Bush as little more than a placeholder...neither good nor bad. Just like his Dad.

Nine months out of office and W is looking like a giant among pigmies.

1. Humble? Georgie had everything done for him from day one of his life.
There was never any humility there or down to earth qualities of the man.

2. I had a funny job back then (2004-5), a debriefing kind of interview with an Irish reporter
She had been granted an interview with W. She was given the questions he was willing to answer beforehand, no questions other than those could be asked or the interview was over. No small talk. She was told not to look him in the face (especially in the eyes), or the interview would be over. She had to keep her head down and stay in her seat while he entered the room (do not turn to look at him), or the interview would be over. Do not touch him in any way, or the interview would be over.

Afterward they made a great big deal about having a picture taken with him. I got a lot of insight into W from that interview... strange little man, huge ego, no stones (even in dealing with a friendly reporter) King George indeed.

I'd rather have a guy who can answer questions honestly, and off the top of his head. If he can't, then he should say, I don't have enough information right now, but I should and I'll get back to you. That's just me I guess.

5. Could be. The job was done for Nikkei Shimbun, IIRC
We used to do Japanese news. They sent us the audio, including the b-roll. It was quite shocking. The interview felt like a debriefing. It was weird. It really stuck with me. We were doing some DoD work at the time, as well, so the debriefing sense may have been my own. I never saw anything about it in an American paper, maybe I read the wrong news. Were probably thinking of the same person, an Irish woman reporter, well respected - Old George was a strange dude, IMO.

10. This is likely the reporter and the interview
but the way it's presented in our news is not the way she described her experience. The job we did was for Sankei Shimbun a Japanese financial newspaper. Those "hard hitting" questions, according to the interview we had, were given to her as part of a list of acceptable questions. They were not the questions she wanted to ask, and the ones she would have asked were not phrased in a way she would have phrased them.

I don't remember the woman's name, and don't have the transcript anymore. It was under NDA anyway. Nonetheless, I don't think anyone believes W was anything close to humble :)

3. Bush quote: "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier...
...just so long as I'm the dictator."

Sounds like a "tyrant's ego" to me.
