Newsmax - "GOP House Members Form Caucus To Fight Media Bias"
Edited on Tue Oct-27-09 12:14 AM by TomCADem
President Obama has merely pointed that Fox News is biased, which is not a big shock since its head is Roger Ailes, a former political operative under Nixon, Reagan and George Bush, Sr. Yet, rather than examine this charge, everyone from Fox News (of course) to Huffington Post (shocking) suggest that pointing out this bias is some huge mistake, and that merely criticizing Fox undermines the First Amendment. Oddly, there is not problem when Republicans habitually engage in such attacks often with far more vitriole than you see by liberals with respect to Fox News:

GOP House Members Form Caucus To Fight Media Bias

A dozen House Republicans are forming a caucus to fight liberal media bias.

Headed by Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the Media Fairness Caucus will point out unfair stories, meet with members of the media, and write op-eds and letters to the editor to highlight media bias.

For the past two years, Smith has conducted his own campaign against unfair coverage in weekly one-minute speeches on the House floor. The caucus is intended to broaden and fortify the effort.

In a Newsmax interview, Smith said media bias is the “greatest threat to our democracy today.”

It is a bigger threat to the nation than a terrorist attack or a depression “because, if the American people can’t get good information, can’t get the facts, and can’t make good decisions, then we simply don’t have a viable democracy,” Smith says. “Right now I think they are not getting the facts and therefore it’s hard to make good decisions, and therefore our democracy is threatened.”

Smith cites the facts that the media ignored Barack Obama’s close association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright for more than a year, and the major networks ran three times as many negative stories about Sen. John McCain as about Obama.

“Both the bias in favor of Obama and the bias against bringing up anything negative about him clearly had an impact on the outcome,” Smith says. “After the election, several reporters came out and wrote that they are embarrassed with their profession because the media were in the tank for Obama.”

1. What Liberal Media?
They are gonna have to find it first. When they do, they can tell us where it is.

3. Personally, I Think The Republicans Are So Shrill That Liberals Are Afraid To Call Out RW Bias
Think about the comments about Fox News by the Obama administration, even by Ms. Dunn. They are far more mild than the comments by the GOP with respect to the so-called liberal media even though Fox is engaging in outright propaganda, rather than mere bias. I have yet to hear ABC, CNN, NBC, or CBS run a story that seriously considers, for example, whether the media has a corporate, right wing, pro-advertiser bias. But, during the election, there were a lot of stories looking into GOP charges of "liberal" bias.

8. The "liberal" media is a big parrot of the right wing media.
Formula:

Right wing says something outrageous...

"left" wing reports on the outrageous stuff the right was saying. Doesn't get a word in edgewise.

Repeat cycle.

7. The GOP are expert at creating the Double Bind. Think about it.
The tit for tat--Obama V Fox.

At the moment Fox is being shown for their bias.

Get the Focus off Fox by going after other Media is their
strategy. By rolling it out as being some great PLAN of ACTION,
they are attempting to turn the tables.

For years they (GOP) have attacked the Media. So much so, they
actually gave the Media a guilt complex. This contributes to
the behavior of the Media today and their sometimes suck up
attitude toward the GOP. Certainly, the way the Media bends over
backwards appearing to appease them.

Nevertheless, right now they wish to change the focus of Fox"s RW Bias
to the MSM. Naturally, they will acuse them of "librul" bias.

They hope if we are yipping about the Media, we will not be yipping
about the Party of No and their Propaganda Machine.
