Snowe voting for the Finance Bill
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 12:26 PM by Mass
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/10/senate-finance-committee-votes-on-health-care-reform-bill.php

NOTE: I was not attempting to make her look good. She is still against a public option and obviously has been wavering again and again before taking position. This said, it means the bill will likely go out of committee and I was reporting this.

5.  She said she voted today, but this does not mean she will vote for the final bill.
I hope you're right.

14. This isn't about voting for the final bill. She is unlikely to support a filibuster, and
may very well vote against the final bill. Not supporting a filibuster is more important than her vote.

22. I was drawing a conclusion from what she said
12:58 p.m.: Snowe notes, "The majority has the votes. It has the votes in the House, it has the votes in the Senate." Good to know!

12:56 p.m.: Snowe says she will vote for the bill on the committee as a way of saying that the process should move forward, but will be vigilant as its merged with the HELP bill. "My vote today does not forecast what my vote will be tomorrow."

Snowe clearly doesn't support the HELP bill, but she also seems resigned to the fact that Democrats have the votes to succeed in the Senate.

9. I would not bet on this. I posted because this means the Finance Bill will pass.
It already has 11 votes from the Dems (Rockefeller and Wyden not included), and with Snowe, it gives them the 12 votes to pass.

option. Hopefully, we won't NEED her vote at that point.

11. Big fucking deal.
Snow is voting for it just because we whored ourselves out to one Republican, who is a Senator of a very small state.

Fuck the Senate the treasonous fucking bastards.

24. Oh look it's the person who responds to everything in a "punkie" manner.
They are indeed making progress. The insurance companies, the pharma thieves and the corporate overlords are almost happy. If you really think these people are on your side, and you're not part of the evil 1% then you are sadly delusional.

I'll make you a deal. I won't bother you and you don't bother me. Fair enough? You obviously think I'm full of shit, and from my perspective I just know you are full of shit.

Now run along and have a good day.

32. No deal huh?
Well alright. I'm quite happy in my life, I own my house free and clear -see I was too smart to take out a second and get fucked by the banks- I have good friends, I give vegetables to the local food bank and I volunteer at a few public minded organizations in my depressed little city.

Not a bitter person, just someone who can read, reason and think for myself.

You just can't let it go can you? If someone has a different outlook than you it just drives you ape shit crazy doesn't it?

The funny thing is, the best you can ever do is come up with silly childish names to call people.

Do you think that may be why you don't have any friends? If you need someone to talk to feel free to pm me, I really do have a good heart and you look like you could use a friend to talk to.

38. What's with the fucking hate for the small states these days on DU?
We seem to have replaced the south as the favorite absurd generalization punching bag.

Does she suck? Yes she does, and I say that as a constituent. Am I annoyed that the Democrats are bending over backwards to please her? Yes. But whether or not she's from a small state doesn't change anything.

39. I hear you. No hate for the state here.
I think Maine is great. My problem has been that the group of six represents 3% of the total population of the US. That makes no sense to me what so ever.

No way I would ever knock Maine and if that's how my comment came off then I apologize.

Pals?

21. We'll see that on the Senate floor. We always knew it would fail in the Finance Committee.
The only question is whether there are 50 votes in the Senate and if Reid can get his people on line to avoid a filibuster. This vote is absolutely irrelevant, except for moving the process ahead.

Stranger things have happened in the reconciliation process than the insertion of a PO into a final healthcare bill, Grasshopper. The House gets to vote, too.

27. Great. Now maybe Rockefeller can vote against it.
We do not need every Democratic vote in order to move this out of the Committee. I would love for Senator Rockefeller to drive home the point now that there won't be health insurance reform without a real public option in the final bill.
