Hard Lefto HQ: check in if you think Obama may be damn good but not God
I'll fess to being part of the problem.

But let's face it: there's some serious hero-worshipping going on around here, some flat-out cow-towing to the leader of the free world just because he's a Democrat, some serious sacrificing of principle for pragmatics, some acceptance of compromising on morality for the sake of political appearances, and some good ol' middle-of-the-roading for the sake of seeming reasonable.

Post here if you live to the left of this stuff.

1. calling him damn good is a bit of a stretch IMO. it's too soon to
tell if he is damn good or damn bad though the direction he has taken and the creeps he has surrounded himself with doesn't bode well.

2. He has the capability of greatness. He does lack supporters
in the senate with a sack of nuts.

3. The common ground bs
he likes to hide behind is a sell out of liberal policy.

and those that hide behind it as well, are part of the problem.

Start with DADT, end with the BUSH conscience rule that is still in affect, with Afghanistan, torture, and rendition in the middle, etc etc.

Wouldn't want to fight to hard or summarily, out of some imaginative jujitsu, make any waves now, would you?

4. Damn good, but no god! The Gipper is the only person ever on the political stage to rise above
mortal status and ascend to a deity. :P

5. "The Gipper" was a dirtbag
and don't you forget it!

Damn good, I dunno. Good maybe, time will only tell how good, or if he is another "good Republican," as was Clinton.

7. One person's trash is another's treasure: The Gipper is the true-believers'
treasure and, in their eyes, has transcended mere mortality and risen a deity. Millions of Americans are delusional about their recently-ordained deity and the more vocal one's are out tea-bagging and 9-12ing in order to show their ugly, spiteful, hateful, and ignorant asses to the world to the world's bemusement and bewilderment. :P

6. I think you need both - and more balance between them
Regardless of President Obama personally, you need to have a party (that's us) that both supports and encourages - presses, demands, even forces their elected official(s) to live up to their promises. If you don't scream loud enough the corporations drown you out without waking up in the morning. Granted, if you just insult, or impugn a man's character he's unlikely to listen to your requests. OTOH, everyone needs appreciation for what they do right, or why should they bother.

The problem here is the personal attacks for different opinions - everyone should be allowed to have their opinion on something.

8. I'm not sure I understand what you mean?
Those that are most critical think that he is some of a God; or one that can do anything he wants.

11. You nailed it.
I do not think he is a God at all, merely a human being.

14. So God is the only entity who can argue loud, clear, and uncompromisingly for a public option.
Only God can declare an end to the ongoing invasion of privacy.
Only God can stop the escalation in Afghanistan.
Only God can say the US won't hold suspects indefinitely.
Only God can declare compromising with Republicans is foolhardy.

9. No there's not
The hero-worship theme is best left to Repukes, thank you. It is projection on their part.

10. It is Obama's choice to be a transformational President
or just another politician.

Afghanistan has destroyed many a false god before.

12. I don't believe in God. Obama is damn good at some things. A mite sluggish on others.
I'm usually left on everything.

That's why I drive my car instead of carpooling.

16. i think hes damn good.
he has made some misteps but overall hes done an enormous job. Unlike many here though i think:

He handled the bailouts correctly.
Is handling DADT correctly.
We should be in Afghanistan.
has done as well as reason could expect with guantanamo
Bipartisanship is good
that congress makes laws and that the constitution matters
that cash for clunkers was awesome on many fronts.
That his style is mature and intelligent.
and that much more good is to come.

Hes not God though and frankly, i see a hell of alot more outright bashing than hero worship.
