It is true that Obama presides over the greatest killing machine in the world ~ but it's also true that this president's wide-angle view of the world sets him far apart from the usual jingoistic tendencies of American power.

It is my great hope that the prize will help Obama fight off our MIC in order to make his own wise decisions so that peace will have a chance.

1. Many of the other recipients got the prize early in their careers too
It may have emboldened them. The POTUS was a good choice. At this point in history he is the one who needs the extra push of support.

7. Exactly - he needs all the support he can get to stand up to our MIC! nt

2. "Obama presides over the greatest killing machine in the world " did you make this discovery before
or after the election? I guess Obama shouldn't have run for President. What if Kucinich, Hillary or Edwards had won, would they be presiding over a different country?

These stupid statements are simply disingenuous crap to denegrate what should be a proud moment for Americans.

6. What a crazy reading of my post!!!
Our MIC is disgusting, no matter who is president. As I've posted many times, my favorite thing about Obama is his view of foreign relations. As I said, the peace prize may very well help him fight the MIC in order to bring more peace.

Your knee-jerk insane reading is very telling.

12. Quoting you is a crazy reading of your post?
Why the hell did you feel the need to throw that statement in to offer a backhanded compliment?

13. It wasn't thrown in - it was essential. It's BECAUSE of our powerful and corrupt MIC...
...that it was so wise for the prize committee to choose President Obama.

Please stop and think before you post ~ teach your knees to be still.

16. You have that backward. That would assume that McCain could have been awarded the prize or
another candidate less committed to the causes espoused by Obama.

5. One would hope he would think more of peace. If he turns out to be an LBJ in Afghanistan
history will be shaking its head over the choice.

15. "Hope Prize" is perfect...
When I decided to work for Obama, it was because of his views about foreign relations and the hope that our kids and a lot of other kids can stop dying needlessly for wars that never had to happen.

19. Exactly. Unlike the other Nobels, the peace prize is given
LARGELY in recognition of effort and promise rather than past successes and prior completed achievement. If you get my drift.

Peace is a nebulous, tenuous thing - a will-o-the-wisp. It is completely different from, say, discovering and proving that E = mc2.
