he wasn't gonna win. This was on the premise that people KNOW what the incumbent's record is and the undecideds are waiting until the end of the race to see what they believe about the challenger.

I'm CERTAIN this is still true.

3. Yup and more people believe country wrong directon
I don't count Gallop or NBC News or any poll that consistently weights their results in favor of Republicans.

7. No. He was much lower in 1994, the worst time of his pres.
1998 and 1999 were pretty heady times for him. He gained seats in congress, watched Gingrich implode, and watched the nation scratch their heads and wonder why the hell congressional republicans were acting like his affair was the worst thing to happen in the country since Benedict Arnold at West Point.

The Gallup Organization has chosen to make everyone on the web take down comparison charts of presidential popularity, but I remember that Clinton was well under 50% during 1994.

8. 1994. Not 1996.
It has been discussed before. Reagan had problems in 1982-1983 and Clinton in 1994-1995. Both won handily. First Bush had high approval in 1990-1991. Lost in 1992 with low approval ratings. Second Bush had high approval ratings in 2002-2003. Is below 50% now. Hopefully Kerry will beat him.
