Are GD and GD:P forms of self-segregation? I just realized ...
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 11:02 AM by HamdenRice
I think that GD-P generally has a pro-Democratic Party, pro-Obama administration majority and GD has an anti-Democratic Party, anti-Obama administration majority, or at least a much larger anti-Dem/Obama minority.

Is that what's happening?

1. That's why I stay in this forum most of the time.
It's like going into a cesspool sometimes when I read GD.

19. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way!!
Someone sent me a link from that board the other day, and I thought it was from here and I wondered where the hell all of the sane people went. lol I was relieved to discover it wasn't GDP.

7. so that means. its GD: P(ersonality cult) for the Obama fans
who want to do nothing but gawk at pictures and agree with each other about how awesome He is and GD is for the people who actually care about and want to discuss the ISSUES. thanks for that clarification because I never noticed the difference.

10. Thanks for setting the example of why I don't venture into GD that often.
Considering there are plenty of discussions in this forum that disagree with President Obama and the Democrats on certain issues, your little thoughts about what type of people post in here are silly at best.

18. So...
That makes GD "Grousing Do-nothings?"

"Godawful Doomsayers?"

"Ga-ga for Dennis kucinich?"

"Grumbling Democrats?"

I can go on and on if you like...

2. Probably. General Discussion seems more like General Dungeon.
Something here is still messed up after the badly handled primaries last year.

5. GD has discussion about a wide variety of interesting topics with a number of diverse opinions, GDP
does not.

And for people who read/post in GD it's actually nice that some posters stay in GDP.

6. It seems that GD has an overall very negative world view-isn't that diverse
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 11:03 AM by HamdenRice
It's mostly doom and gloom, same as Bush, etc.

Although you are right there are more diverse topics.

11. everybody at DU is generally pro-Democratic Party, pro-Obama administration
everyone criticizes Obama and the dems at times.

Stop dividing people unnecessarily.

14. No, they aren't
There is a group of people who explicitly say that the Democratic Party and AFL-CIO unions are a criminal conspiracy against the working class, and who don't provide constructive criticism but unrelenting negativity.

Why they post on a Democratic website is a bit of a mystery. At least now I know they are mostly on GD and not as bad on GD-P.

13. I post in both sections but really prefer GD:P better because its all about politics
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 11:22 AM by Jennicut
And I am a political junkie.
If I feel like getting a break from news on the WH, then I go over to GD.
I started here and am just more used to it but I like both sections. Yeah, there are some extreme views over there but its a message board.

16. GD:P used to be GD:Politics, not Presidential. I wish they'd switch back.
That was before the primaries.

23. IIRC, it was primaries then presidential in 2004, too.
I think they've been slower to change it since there's a Dem president in the WH. I'd support changing it back to GD: Politics, too.

17. I treat the "P" as "Politics" - even proposed this after the elections
So everything about politics I post here. GD is about everything else.

21. GDP is about making progress with what we have to work with.....
While GD is about how we must hold this administration's feet to the fire,
till they cannot walk towards progress.

25. GDP requires a certain amt of black/white view to participate regularly in
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 01:14 PM by La Lioness Priyanka
either you are against the dems and obama and thereby a freeper or you are with us. the attitude is very similar to the GOP after they controlled congress/white house

most of us like shades of gray in these things.

26. At first I was going to say that it was GD that had black white thinking
because of the very doctrinaire Trotskyite types, but then remembered a post critical of Obama in GD-P that got pounced on, so I can see your point.

I think they are each b/w but on different topics and with different majorities.

27. its not just obama, if you question if the dems are focussing on the right issues or whatever
you are clearly a freeper. clearly. or some radicaly leftist. of course there are always some safe target, pelosi, hillary, kucinich & some others dont get this status.

still, you are either with us or against us, is a stupid argument in most instances
