Dems worried about 2M tea party turnout??

Pelosi, Dems Bracing For Huge Turnout At Glenn Beck/Tea Party Gathering

Looks like there’s serious concern among Dems about the big 9/12 rally that’s being heavily promoted by Glenn Beck, Fox, and the tea partiers for tomorrow.

A top aide to Nancy Pelosi has emailed a memo to Dem aides on the Hill and outside liberal groups warning they should brace for a turnout of up to two million people, suggesting Dems worry that if enough conservatives descend on the Mall it will amount to a major PR victory for the right.

The aide, Doug Thornell, warned in the memo that the dust-up over Joe “you lie” Wilson has been invigorating conservatives. “It looks like Saturday’s event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people,” Thornell wrote in the memo, which was forwarded by a source.

In another sign of concern, the memo painstakingly detailed a range of turnout predictions from the event’s organizers, such as this one from tea party leaders promising a crowd of up to 1,000,000.

Adding to Dem concern is the fact that Beck recently claimed a major victory in the ouster of former green jobs adviser Van Jones.

The House leadership memo predicting huge turnout could have been written in hopes that it would leak and inflate expectations for turnout, anticipating that it will fall far short. But Dems on the Hill insist they’re genuinely worried about what tomorrow will bring.

1. Lol...
I don't think so; in any event it doesn't matter if handled properly. This health care thing definitely needs to wrap up soon though. If the votes are there, do it; if not pass what we can and declare victory.

this SHOULD have been a left wing march, not the loonie right. Unfortunately, they seem to have more fire than our side for now. Much of the left enthusiasm and activism seems to have been exhausted by the election. It's only natural in a way I guess, but unfortunate nevertheless.

I have been in the midst of their violence, I was with Carlos Arredondo in Sept 2007, when the Gathering of Eagles, the Freepers, etc, were absolutely itching for a fight. Carlos did go after them when one grabbed a photo of Alex. This is one of two times a year that for our art/craft, we must be at a mineral show. If it weren't for that, we might have been spending most of the month in dc, as I have done before. We live in Kansas, so I can't just run down there tomorrow and back to Denver Sunday....report back.

19. I doubt that there will anywhere close to that number
If Pelosi is truly that worried, maybe she and other Democratic leaders should finally get off their collective asses and do something about it. The very first thing that they should do is recognize that there is a problem with the growth of the right wing hate machine and that they are not powerless. For example, why in the hell is Limbaugh still on the Armed Forces Radio Network? It is bizarre that there seems to be almost no effort beyond denying the vicious, dishonest, daily attacks by the likes of Beck and Limbaugh to address the right wing hate machine of Clear Channel, FOX News etc.

1) This is a memo designed to vastly overestimate what will likely occur, so as to achieve a politically beneficial outcome for our side, or...

2) This is a bona fide warning that gives us all head's up to come up with a response. And I think the response should be "You guys ignored our marches on Iraq -- We are ignoring your march on health care -- Deal."

From wtop.com

The Tea Party Express Rally and March will be held on Saturday, starting around 11 a.m. The march will proceed from Freedom Plaza to the National Mall, causing temporary street closures on Pennsylvania Avenue between 14th and 3rd Street NW.

If that many weer coming down there would be road closures all day, warnings about not coming downtown etc...

Why? Because unlike the old Freeper rallies, the teabaggers are corporate sponsored by the DICK Arm(e)y, Koch Industries, PHaRMA, etc. And that kind of money can bus in a lot of idiots.

Tea Party folk assemble in the DC Armory to listen to the likes of Sen. Inhofe, Dick Armey, and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).

About 800 people showed up at the kickoff rally. Organizers are expecting huge crowds at Saturday's "March on Washington."

Wonder if this "Proud to be a Teabagger" would like to give up his veteran and Medicare benefits? After all isn't both those programs "socialist"?

107. Look at the cultural diversity in all those photos
Goodness, it looks like the whole United Nations has turned out with all the different races and cultures on display:sarcasm:

Seriously though, most of them look like ugly, hateful and quite possibly in a lot of cases bigoted people

54. USA Today article says 30,000 have signed up to attend on Freedom Works website.
By Emily Bazar, USA TODAY

Tens of thousands of conservative activists are preparing to descend on the nation's capital Saturday for a rowdy tea-party style protest, event planners say.

About 30,000 have signed up on the event's website to attend the march and rally and oppose what they call excessive government spending, says Adam Brandon, spokesman for FreedomWorks, a group that supports lower taxes and less government. Former House majority leader, Republican Dick Armey, is the organization's chairman.

More may show, Brandon says, and at least 450 tour buses will bring protesters from around the country.

Both the U.S. Capitol Police and the U.S. Park Police say they're boosting staffing for the event. They decline to provide crowd estimates.

59. If it is 2 million, it will be the biggest PR nightmare the Republicans
have ever seen. Imagine - they'll want to bring their assault rifles to Washington to protect their Hitler signs. Too bad their white sheets are going to get rained on.

This rightwing crowd are a bunch of older, white bigots and like the KKK who wore hoods to hide their faces, they are cowards.

We should show up. They are not comfortable with gay people like me or with proud people of color. They are cowards.

91. huh--they were never "worried" about antiwar protestors for all those years
--what a bunch of bullshit.

In February 2003, 2 million people marched against the Iraq war in London as part of a worldwide protest in 800 cities:

On February 15, millions of people protested, in approximately 800 cities around the world. Listed by the 2004 Guinness Book of Records as the largest protest in human history, protests occurred among others in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Syria, India, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and even McMurdo Station in Antarctica. The largest demonstration this day occurred in London, where 2,000,000 protesters (about 1 in 30 of the population) gathered in Hyde Park; speakers included the Reverend Jesse Jackson, London mayor Ken Livingstone, and Liberal Democrats leader Charles Kennedy.

The fucking rube teabaggers put themselves in that class. Good luck with that, assholes. I can't wait to read about their ridiculous few dozen "patriots" "protesting" --what?

I think this really is an attempt to raise expectations, I can't see a conservative cause bringing that many people. Many of them only like rant from their computer, getting up and going outside is too much work.
