1. I know I am the ONLY one who feels this way, (and it's the ONLY time I've
ever cut Bush some slack) but I think he handled it okay. It's an ENORMOUS chunk of info to process while maintaining calm for the kiddies. If the SS though he (and by extension the school kids) were in imminent danger, they'd have yanked him out of the room, rather than whispering in his ear.

So on this count, he responded probably as I would have, not wanting to cause panic, awaiting further details. So don't vote for me! :7:

2. He should have excused himself and left.
Could have said "Children, something has come up that I need to attend to. Thanks for having me in your class today, you all are doing great!" or something like that, and left.

6. I think he was going on the advice of the SS -- had he been NEEDED, he prob
would have done that. But they were just getting reports in, so if he'd excused himself, then what -- just stand around w/the SS and his advisors finding out the info. They didn't need him for that, it was much too soon for any decisions, and he did excuse himself just a few minutes later. We (you and I) won't come to an agreement on this, but that's my take on it, and it has been since 9/11. As I said, I think this is the ONLY situation I'm giving him a pass on. Hell, if they would have done there jobs, there wouldn't have BEEN a 9/11! :grr:

9. Some Say - The Country Was Under Attack - The President's Location......
was known as well. If the attackers really wanted to disarm the U.S. and take out the President - they knew where he was - and the fact that they didn't get him out of there immediately put both his life and the lives of the children and teachers in that school in potential jeopardy. Some say the SS didn't react correctly.

And the Truther's posit - unless they knew that his life wasn't in danger. Hmmmm......

4. No, you have company. I've always felt he acted appropriately in that situation -
- based on conversations with a retired secret service friend, Bush couldn't move until such time as the secret service was ready for him to be moved. Vehicles and men had to be repositioned, the plane had to be prepped, etc. I would imagine that they had to take even further precautions than normal given what was occurring. It takes time to get the people and instruments in place to move a president, especially in an emergency situation.

5. No, you're not alone. I've never personally held this particular...
...incident against him. Like you said, considering the enormous chuck of info dumped on him in a very short period of time, I think he did OK. I do wish however that he could have at least been holding the book the right way.

10. If Bush had paid attention to the CIA briefing among other warnings there probably would

would not have been a 9/11.

Throughout that summer, we now well know, Tenet, Richard Clarke, and several other officials were running around with their "hair on fire," warning that al-Qaida was about to unleash a monumental attack. On Aug. 6, Bush was given the now-famous President's Daily Brief (by one of Tenet's underlings), warning that this attack might take place "inside the United States." For the previous few years—as Philip Zelikow, the commission's staff director, revealed this morning—the CIA had issued several warnings that terrorists might fly commercial airplanes into buildings or cities.
And now, we learn today, at this peak moment, Tenet hears about Moussaoui. Someone might have added 2 + 2 + 2 and possibly busted up the conspiracy. But the president was down on the ranch, taking it easy. Tenet wasn't with him. Tenet never talked with him. Rice—as she has testified—wasn't with Bush, either. He was on his own and, willfully, out of touch.

A USA Today story, written right before Bush took off, reported that the vacation—scheduled to last from Aug. 3 to Sept. 3—would tie one of Richard Nixon's as the longest that any president had ever taken. A week before he left, Bush made a videotaped message for the Boy Scouts of America. On the tape, he said, "I'll be going to my ranch in Crawford, where I'll work and take a little time off. I think it is so important for the president to spend some time away from Washington, in the heartland of America."

Yeah, 9/11 must have all been an ENORMOUS shock for Bush. :sarcasm:

Just think Katrina must have been another ENORMOUS shock for Bush. :sarcasm:

7. He acted as calmly as Hitler did when "informed" of the Reichstag fire
Great men often share so many qualities
