which was also fatally flawed from its inception and which also favored the monied interests of a few over basic human dignity and the longterm national interest.

Sometimes the ethics and morality of an issue trump convenience, tradition, inertia, complacency, and fear of the unknown. Our "leaders" should recognize such instances and direct our country towards not only an equitable outcome, but one that is wise, brave and fiscally prudent that advances the health and security of the entire country.
