"Hopemonger" up and ready to begin a new day... First-time jobless claims expected to drop
First-time jobless claims expected to drop
AP

WASHINGTON – Government data this week showed that consumers and businesses went on a big-ticket spending spree in July, sending home, car and equipment sales soaring by the largest amount in years. On Thursday, the Labor Department's report on weekly jobless claims will indicate whether that improved confidence about the economy is boosting the job market.

I "hope" this will play out, and we can start to bring some jobs in also.

1. Things may be turning around
Had a beer last night with a guy in the collections department of our utility company last night, he and I have both been hearing from customers that some of the long-time delinquent accounts now have customers who have recently gotten back to work.

It probably hasn't spread to the countryside yet, but recoveries always start in the biggest metropolitan areas and move outwards.

5. I just paid off a delinquent account!

Of course it was more because of my own deadbeattery than anything else ($34). It was just for a DVD club that I longer use. So I paid the bill and canceled my membership.

6. Add some more to that news out there
:hi:

GDP declines 1 percent in 2Q, better than expected
AP

WASHINGTON – The economy shrank at an annual rate of 1 percent in the spring, a better-than-expected showing and more evidence that the recession is drawing to a close.

Many analysts believe the economy is growing in the current quarter, but they caution that any rebound will not be accompanied initially by rising employment. Jobless claims figures released Thursday were better than expected, but remain well above levels associated with a healthy economy.

4. Great news. Some more anecdotal evidence.
The surveying business is picking up in NC. Which means the housing market may be starting to improve. We were only getting about 2 jobs a week since December, the last two weeks we have had jobs called in everyday.

7. Things will really take a turn for the better when new jobs are added.
Anyone want to predict when that will be.
