As Recently as 8/14 Dr Dean was Convinced the Public Option was WINNING

Dean urged participants to not get discouraged. He said, "We're winning. Things have changed a lot. The anti-public option people are desperate. that's why they are making things up and appealing to the fringe. We're in good shape. We're going to win this fight. We're going to have a public option."

Is Dean lying to us? Is he naive? Or does he just know a little more about the dynamics of this subject than your average DUer?

2. I don't believe Dean is lying. I've read and re-read the AP story

and I don't think the contention that the White House is willing to drop public option is supported by what HHS Sec Gibbs said today.

We've seen numerous cases when AP meant "Agents of the Plutocracy" rather than some acronym about the press. They may be trying to spin their wishes into reality. If you can get everyone to believe that something is winning, the appearance of inevitability makes it more likely. Here's hoping AP is just spinning.

He looked and sounded pretty confident to me. But apparently I'm not supposed to believe him?
