Why is Obama not kicking Grassley's ass in?
Way, way, way too much good cop. Grassley's irresponsible actions DEMAND a response and not a kind one.

He should be chained under the fucking bus.

1. That might offend some Republican a-hole somewhere,
and we can't have that, now can we?

Can't have that.

Besides, we just need to reach out to these people some more!

5. Oh come on now. Few, if any, are more pro-Obama than me
but playing nice after that scumbag move yesterday is nothing but a display of weakness. He should be releasing the hounds on the worthless piece of shit. Negotiation with the Republicans is OFFICIALLY OVER on this issue as far as I'm concerned. If Collins or Snowe want to vote in the interests of their constituents that's fine but when those supposedly in tune with the process and bargaining "in good faith" come with bold lies that can't help but poison the water then you can't cooperate. They are demonstrating that they have ZERO real interest in this process and should be dismissed.

24. We aren't getting any votes from folks that would take offense to taking this scum to task
How is my post silly when you are attempting to negotiate with someone that is publicly poisoning the water?

What in the world is there to negotiate about with someone that publicly lies and fans fears over the subject of the negotiation.

How chill and friendly is reasonable? There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I love steak but I don't need 99 pounds at a sitting.

7. A sure sign that he will soon own Grassley's ass,
like when people complained that he didn't kick Lieberman to the curb.

He's gonna use him something good. Watch.

17. Which is kind of ironic
for a politician from Chicago.

Instead of the Chicago school, we get the 'let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya' school of politics. Just another typical spineless democrat.

No wonder the republicans control the message now - Democrats don't know how to play tough.

15. I wish Obama WOULD kick his ass, and
the asses of other repukes as well. I am sick of this let's-everyone-get-along bs. The American people voted overwhelmingly DEMOCRATIC. The repukes lost. I wish Obama would ignore the effers.

The lauding of Grassley the other day was hard for me to take, and I am near the end of my ability to watch such displays while actual heros are fired to serve other people's dogmatic hang ups.
I see no return on all that outreach and honey dripping, none at all. All I see is a lack of discernment that is getting hard to deal with. The man loves team sports, can he not fathom that one can not be on both teams at once, that you really do need to desire victory for your own and defeat of the other? You do not negotiate the championship, to the best of my knowledge.
So enough already.

20. Could this possibly have anything to do with Grassley's posturing?
From the website of opensecrets:

Contributor Total Indivs PACs
Amgen Inc $33,300 $24,300 $9,000
Blue Cross/Blue Shield $26,750 $14,250 $12,500
Select Medical Corp $23,000 $23,000 $0
Occidental Petroleum $21,000 $11,000 $10,000
DaVita Inc $18,000 $8,000 $10,000

http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=n00001758

I realize this has probably previously been posted at some point, but considering his bragging at postponing the vote in June on a bill -- he stuck his finger in the dike (his words) so the bill could not be agreed upon before the August recess -- these statistics cannot be repeated often enough at this time.

If you have the time to click on the link to check for further details, take a look at his top 20 contributors.

republicon asshole? President Obama is doing just fine with his strategy in spite of the armchair warriors who can only snark and would just jump outta that chair through the monitor and give grassley what for if they only could.

25. Grassley is an old mule. He's arthritic and nearing clinical brain death.
Obama is buttering him up, is my guess.

We have to leave a way out for the recalcitrants.

Just hammering the sorry old fool loses too much ground.

I think the White House is playing this pretty smart.

Let's wait and see what happens.

26. I've totally been onboard with the bipartisanship and you guys knowit good and well
but this is not something that you let slide?

Is there no point where you have to get tough or do you just play nice until you get done digging your own hole and peacefully lie down?

I've been right way more often than wrong. My political tone deafness is minimal at worse. There is nothing further to discuss with Grassley on health reform. All he can do is water down the bill, use his office as a US Senator to spread bold faced lies and misinformation, and then vote nay. You can get a little mileage only as long as the other side at least is willing to pretends to play along but once they go way off the reservation like Grassley has then YOU ARE BEGGING and begging doesn't play.

27. Seriously, at this stage what can be gained by letting this slide and what do we have to trade off
for the pleasure of him killing the bill from the inside and then still voting against it?

He is using his influence to put as many gremlins in the works as he can and sure as hell won't be voting for the bill. I say that this bipartisan effort is OVER. We can try again to see if the children will behave on the next bill but the "we're trying to play nice and be fair" mileage has clearly run out.

We're trying to negotiate with this turd and he's out scaring old people! Are we recommending Obama give him a hummer too or is begging at his feet in front of the nation enough?
