Beware: there were TWO MEN with LOADED GUNS nearby the NH Presidential townhall
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 03:24 PM by Julius Civitatus
I've been following the disturbing news from yesterday's presidential healthcare townhall in New Hampshire. Many in these forums have also been following the hair-raising news, but most are unaware that there were TWO DIFFERENT PROTESTORS identified with LOADED WEAPONS outside the event.

  1. Lunatic #1: William Kostric (mid-30s) the protester that showed up carrying a loaded weapon, and that the media covered extensively:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYUmCj4yud4

  2. Lunatic #2: Richard Terry Young (62), was actually arrested at the school with a knife and a loaded gun (on edit CORRECTION: he was carrying the knife, but the unlicensed loaded gun was found in his car):
    http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20090811-NEWS-908119961

This has created an extremely dangerous precedent, and needs to be addressed immediately. I sincerely hope that the Secret Service reviews their protocol and are able to react appropriately against this trend. The right-wing loudmouths in the radio and cable news (Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, Dobbs) are fanning the flames of hate, and working up the most lunatic right-wing fringe to the point where it's getting very scary.
This needs to stop!

:scared:

1. Young was carrying a pocket knife but not a gun, right?
The gun was in his car. An unlicensed gun.

Is that right?

3. I believe that's the case...
He had the knife on him when he was stopped at the school, and the unlicensed loaded gun was apparently in the car.

4. That's how I heard it on the news. Of course the media is so fucked up
the guy could have had a live grenade in his pocket for all we know.

I'm so pissed at the braindead, fucking stupid cable news media for showing that Rosa Parks poster-ripping incident yesterday completely out of context, in addition to spurring on the increasingly violent protests by focusing almost solely on them.

19. I corrected the headline and body to adjust it to the news details
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 03:11 PM by Julius Civitatus
Nevertheless, it doesn't detract from the disturbing aspect of finding two men with loaded weapons in the vicinity of the event. What was the purpose of that? It bothers me how some seems to think this is perfectly normal. It isn't, no matter how you slice it. It can be perfectly legal in NH to carry a loaded gun accross the street from a presidential event. I'm sure there's way the feds can override that NH law to preserve the safety of the commander in chief.

2. Let's review what happened...
One guy was found by authorities in the school and arrested

One guy was away from the school (and President Obama) and kept under surveillance

Sounds like the SS knows what it's doing

5. No doubt. To my point, this is creating a crazy precedent
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 02:40 PM by Julius Civitatus
Why would anyone bring an unlicensed loaded loaded gun anywhere near the vicinity of that event?
Either a psycho, or a complete moron. Either case is reason to worry, in my opinion.

but they cannot remove a gun strapped loon from the vicinity of the president?

Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 03:45 PM by Julius Civitatus
on edit: we may be talking about different loons. Too many loons with loaded guns!

This is what the article says:

PORTSMOUTH — Police said a man arrested at the scene of President Barack Obama's visit to the city Tuesday was found to be in possession of an unlicensed loaded gun.

Richard Terry Young, 62, of 821 Ocean Blvd. in Hampton, was arrested around 9:40 a.m., hours before Obama's arrival, and charged with the misdemeanor crimes of criminal trespass and carrying a loaded pistol without a license.

Young was found inside Portsmouth High School, where Obama later in the day held his town hall-style forum. Young was detained by the Secret Service and subsequently arrested by Portsmouth Lt. Corey MacDonald. Young was carrying a pocket knife, police said. A subsequent search of his vehicle, parked on school property, revealed a loaded hand gun, police said

(...)

Granted he was arrested before the event happened, but to me, what the article says is reason to worry about the intentions of Richard Young, frankly.

43. Yes, we are talking about two different people.
The one I was talking about was openly wearing a loaded gun somewhere outside of the building (I'm not sure exactly where), but he was never close enough to the President to be a danger. He wasn't breaking any laws so there was no justification for arresting him, but he was constantly shadowed by a Secret Service agent.

9. Not quite accurate...

Lunatic #1: Was across the street on Church property and was not allowed into the event. It is legal in NH to have a weapon that is clearly visible.

Lunatic #2: Was not carrying a loaded gun. He had a gun in his car. He did have a knife (how many people have one?) and was arrested. I believe his work vehicle was registered as positive by a bomb-sniffing dog. That is when they opened the vehicle and found a weapon inside. In his case, it was not legal because in NH you need a permit to carry a weapon in your car.

The guy ought to be arrested for that alone even if President Obama is hundreds of miles away.

27. Who are you talking about?
In NH you do not have to register anything if the gun is on your person and plainly visible.

You do need one if the gun is in your vehicle. And that guy was arrested and charged as such.

34. No problem...
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Police say a man has been charged with trespassing after he allegedly tried to get into Portsmouth High School before President Obama spoke at a New Hampshire health care town hall meeting.

Police say 62-year-old Richard Young of Hampton, N.H., was detained by Secret Service personnel after he attempted to get into the high school Tuesday. The high school had been secured at the time in advance of the president’s visit.

WMUR reports police said he was also in possession of a folding pocketknife, and officers found a loaded handgun in his car, which was parked in on school property. Young was then charged misdemeanor carrying a loaded pistol without a license.

I read very carefully. Not only do I read, but I consult other sources to check the facts. I also dont like seeing people post knee jerk conclusions when the facts are not available. DU was not soley focused on the guy outside. There were posts about this. Except they too were sensational, stating that someone was trying to kill the prez because a dog registered a hit and discovered a bomb.

The idiot with the strap-on admitted he was using it as a prop to sell his libertarian and 2nd amendment views. He found a media heavy stage and used it's focus to highlight his protest. The bent brains around him that are carry concealed weapons however are the real danger and are the ones the SS and we all should fear.
