"Is there anybody in your family that does NOT have health insurance?"
I would LOVE to have a besieged Representative or Senator ask this of one of those disruptors at a town hall meeting.

"Do you have health insurance? Your husband/wife? All of your children? How about grandchildren? Parents? Cousins? Aunts? Uncles? Nephews? Nieces?"

At some point, they're almost guaranteed to get either an "I don't know" or a flat-out "No".

Then...

"If we had Medicare-for-all, you would be able to INSTANTLY answer 'yes' to every single question I just asked you. Why don't you want your family members to have health insurance?"

I'd love to see their little brains pop in their skulls.

Good luck with that. Ask the AstroTurfers, too... see if it registers with them. :-)

5. I only regained healthcare a couple of weeks ago with Wisconsin's BadgerCare Plus
for adults without children. I had a physical last night and my doctor thought this program was great and he agrees we need healthcare reform. Anyone who believes we are not already paying for huge healthcare costs for those who have no insurance, but end up at the ER is a fool. Canada spends about 10% of their GDP on healthcare and we spend 16%. For us, that 6% extra is an additional 800 billion dollars spent each year for healthcare. Add to that the savings from not having the uninsured show up at the ER and that turns into some serious money.

Republicans love money, so why do they want to spend about twice as much for healthcare per person than the rest of the industrialized world and still have millions uncovered and not have the best healthcare in the world. Do they willing go to the store and see that day old loaf of bread marked down to $2 and say, "what the hell, I'll give you $4 for that loaf"? These people who claim to be fiscal conservatives are really fools when it comes to money.

10. "In chaos they can steal" is the only answer I can think of.
Rhandi Rhodes made that point repeatedly about Iraq, and it's very true.

7. "Are you aware that Medicare IS RUN BY THE GOVERNMENT???"
"And has an 'administrative cost' which is a tiny fraction of what the insurance industry has?"

That should be shouted back at the idiots who scream "Keep the govt out of my health care, and don't touch my Medicare!"

8. (kick) They Argue that they don't think they should cover "non-Americans" and "lazy people", but...
...They don't understand that one of the reasons our costs are so fucking high is that hospitals and other providers DO provide services to the uninsured and have to pass on the costs to the insured.

With no preventative services, we are in a last minute, emergency room, most-expensive-way-to-do-it, providing services AND paying for them through high premiums.

We've got to knock off the bullshit and provide safe economical health care to everyone.

9. I just e-mailed Susan Collins
with that question.

Along with - why is it ok for our representatives to have the best health care paid for by the tax payers while we go with out?

12. "I'm fighting for my right to be insurance-free!"
"Oppress me! Oppress me!"

I have this mental image of freed slaves marching on Washington back in, say, 1850, waving pro-slavery signs.

I have one aunt on medicare. She got two hip replacements last year.

I have one nephew who's a 21 year old leech who doesn't, he would qualify for medicaid.

He would just go to our county hospital, no big deal. We have a pretty good public system where he lives.

The rest of my fairly large extended family has proper insurance.

I actually read the house bill. It's not too bad..

It does worry me as an employer, and the IRS involvement written into it.

It could possibly cost me an employee or two. I pay 100% blue cross blue shield for employees, with dental in a separate policy and get a rate about half the national average. Our rates actually went down last year, for better coverage. It really is a takeover of control of the entire private insurance industry for better or worse.

It also does not mandate the proposed savings from medicaid/care be implemented. Will congress actually make those cuts after the bill passes?

It's pretty vague in general, with the real meat of change being done by a panel within 12-24 months.

I'm hoping the senate comes up with something better. As an employer the non profit coop idea is one I would like to hear more about.

16. And you know it doesn't really matter is they DO have health care insurance.
Do they have insurance that they know FOR A FACT will not drop them when it is needed most.
That's one of the main points those roundheads don't get because many of them do have insurance.
They just haven't had to use for a serious illness yet.
