I've got it!
Obviously, the town hall mobs aren't about health care. I don't even think they are about having a black president (although I think that some folks are certainly taking advantage of the angst that causes some).

They are about erecting another wall between politicians and the people they represent.

If a politician is scared away from communicating with real people because of the threat of organized violence, it creates another wedge, another wall between politicians and those they are supposed to serve, thereby increasing their reliance on lobbying and special interest groups for communication and information.

If all they corporate interests do is further increase distrust between the public and the politicians, even if some form of health care is passed, it's still a win for them.
