1. Watch him very very closely.
Even as he leaves, find out who he is, and watch him.

2. He should be arrested
He carries a firearm to a Presidential function, which is against the law as far as anyone knows, so he needs to be arrested. And for the record, I am a pro gun guy. Just not around the President. Any President.

7. I wouldn't be surprised
if he is doing this just to be provocative. If he gets removed the NRA will scream that his rights were violated.

Let him have his gun and put a secret service agent right next to him with eyes on the gun every damn second. ONe flase move and this guy will be looking at life in prison or worse.

8. Prosecute for any violations of state or Federal law.
Was this an attempted murder? I don't know, but if he intended to shoot the President, but got cold feet, bringing the gun is probably a sufficient "substantial step" to constitute an attempt offense.

9. Let him do 5 years in a Federal pen
Then he's a convicted felon, and can't own a gun. That'll get him where he lives.

21. When I was volunteering at a Kerry rally in 2004...
...the Secret Service searched everyone with metal detectors and some by hand. There was no way they were going to let a gun anywhere near Sen. Kerry. I have to think they had legal authority to do that and that a similar prohibition would apply to events in the immediate vicinity of a public event with the President.

14. Tough call.
I am heartily in favor of "gun rights." And I'm wary of police over-reaction in any situation. However, it's obvious that this man is threatening the President. His actions are legal, apparently. He should be carefully watched, and the news media should be made aware of his presence and the surveillance of him. My chief concern is that this behavior could escalate in future settings. Others of his ilk should be fully aware that they are treading a fine line.

Sorry, but with as unhinged as a lot of these people appear to be, can we really trust them to go in there with a damn gun?

They scare me.
