Because his mother was an American citizen. That makes him a "natural born American citizen" according to the U.S. Constitution. Don't let people sidetrack us with talk about where he was actually born. It is only who is mother was that matters.

My new baby grandson was almost born in New Zealand (plans changed at the last minute). His mother and dad are American citizens; he would still have been an American citizen too.
