Obama Calls Out 'Outlandish Rumors'

By Matt Spetalnick

Obama's aides and fellow Democrats have charged that protests staged at some "town hall"-style meetings held by congressional Democrats have been orchestrated by Republican- and industry-backed groups and conservative talk-show hosts, and are calling for a more civil dialogue.

Obama's push for healthcare reform, which seeks to provide coverage to nearly 46 million uninsured Americans, rein in healthcare costs and regulate insurance practices has been assailed by critics over its $1 trillion cost and scope. Republicans call it a government takeover of healthcare that will drive up the deficit.

Democrats who control Congress have feuded among themselves over how to pay for it, and Obama's public approval rating has slipped as the debate drags on.

Obama says the package is vital to a U.S. economic recovery. No Republicans have backed the proposals being crafted in Congress.

"Let me explain what reform will mean for you. And let me start by dispelling the outlandish rumors that reform will promote euthanasia, cut Medicaid or bring about a government takeover of health care. That's simply not true," Obama said in his Saturday address.

"There are those who ... are trying to exploit differences or concerns for political gain," he added.

Obama acknowledged some differences remained to be worked out but insisted that "we are moving toward a broad consensus" and reaffirmed his goal of getting the healthcare revamp enacted by the end of the year.

He will keep up his own public relations offensive on healthcare next week when he holds a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

1. If the old people are stupid enough to believe this shit, then maybe they SHOULD be euthanised.
No, not really.

Maybe just forced to live on an island designed to be exactly the way Fox "News" says the world really is.

2. So, let me get this straight...I will see no difference in my health coverage
under the Obama Health Plan. I am 63 and get my insurance through my employer. It is very good insurance and I have no complaints. The Obama Plan will not take my coverage away from me.

If I was to lose my job, under the Obama Health Plan, I would be able to find affordable health insurance either through some sort of government supported program or with a private carrier who will not be able to pull the "pre-existing condition" crap on me. Anyone who has lived to be my age has some sort of a pre-existing condition...living has a way of doing that.

So far, so good. Now, when I reach 65, I will enroll in Medicare. I have talked to many folks on Medicare and they love it, have no problems with it. No one from the government ever gets involved with their care...it's them and their Doctor.

So, that's pretty good. Now, for end of life issues. I have struggled through this with both of my parents as I have previously described. They had given no instructions and my brother and I did what we thought was the right and loving thing to do for them. I wish an end of life conversation had taken place. It would have made things easier.

So, for me, the fact that the government wants to encourage families to talk about this inevitable event is nothing but a good thing. I have a living will but it's only a concept until I am faced with death and the stages of death. At that point I want to have a conversation with my Doctor and my Son. I want to know that we are all on the same page. I want to understand what's ahead. I want that for myself and because I owe that to my Son.

So, there it is folks, in a nutshell, Obama's Health Plan. I cannot find one single thing evil about it. What have I missed? Am I living on a different planet?

It makes about as much sense as anything I've read from other sources and you might just clear up a lot of concerns.

A lot of health problems can cause the elderly to misunderstand issues. For one, diabetes. If their counts are off, their minds may not be as clear. Alzheimer's disease...we all surely understand how that could confuse the issues. BUT, the problem with these horrible rumors going around isn't going to effect the elderly, as they are on Medicare and won't even be part of this new healthcare. So, the only reason the Repugs are bringing it up is as a scare tactic.

Shame on them. They won't be happy until a bunch of elderly drop dead from stress and fear. Idiots!

6. I wish he would drop the phrase "That's simply not true"
He starts out with a strong statement and then weakens it with "that's simply not true". It just doesn't have any punch, sounds defensive, and is anti-climatic.

If he can find a humorous phrase that nails the sources of these rumors without being too tacky that would work even better. Something like "I think there are a few people with microphones who need to loosen their tin foil hats. Let some oxygen circulate back into their brain."

smack down Sarah Palin. Maybe he didn't want to give her the publicity, which is probably smart, but damn, she needs to be put in her place for pretty much everything that comes out of her filthy mouth. Her latest "death panel", killing disabled babies lie was just despicable.

Edit: For dumb stuff. Oh, and rec.
