They wouldn't have been able to peel me off him & I would have been hysterical "Take me hooooommmmme!"

Honestly, my first thought would have been "Are they letting me go or is this just an allowed visit?"

I'm sure Pres Clinton made it clear immediately that he was taking them with him, and at that point I don't think I could have stopped crying w/relief.

73. If only I could wake up and find out that the period from November 2000
to January 20, 2009 had been nothing but a bad dream, that Al Gore had taken his rightful place in the White House on January 20, 2001, that there had been no 9-11, no invasion of Afghanistan, no war with Iraq, no torture (as there most assuredly would NOT have been under Al Gore), that FEMA had acted as it should have to save the great city of NOLA, that USG regulation of the securities markets had been more than a myth, that Al Gore had recognized LIEberman for the useless POS he is and had discarded him LONG before the 2004 election, and so on and so forth.
Ah, the tears for all the lost years ... !

63. Don't tell W Bush, John Bolton, Rummy, Cheney, or Gonzo that!!!!!!!!
the worst public servants of all time... don't give them a hint as to how to get America back to a position of power.

Let's just send them to Iran for "negotiations" on hostages there...........send them all...get rid of them once and for all.

83. Boy, isn't that a storybook ending to the last 15 years.
It is fine art on so many levels that just aren't appreciated. To name a few, shrewd access and intelligence gathering by virtue of Clinton having access, further validation of Gore's globalism, especially in light of the Iranian summer (i.e. the importance of illegal freelance reporting), all of that stuff.

But it was just the mere images today, after the abject failure of Bush's diplomatic and economic program, and the beginnings of improvement under the restoration of intelligent, pragmatic, globalist and demand-side leadership, those images would have been nice to prophesy in 1995, or 2001.

109. Points out a fundamental difference between leading Democrats and leading Republicans
Clinton and Gore did this because it was the right thing to do and because they wanted to help the two women.

Bush and Cheney wouldn't have done it unless it was politically expedient and there was something in it for them.

130. I have a question
the two journalists were held as political prisoners. Now I understand that "political prisoners" carries a negative connotation, but..

these two WERE political activists and expressly so..no?

Is it the severity of the sentence that we are objecting to? Or is political dissidence a one-way street?

I have always wondered one thing about so-called "political" prisoners: if the United States builds and fills prisons because of politics aren't the people caught up in that dragnet also political prisoners? Doesn't our enormous prison population (plus those on probation and parole) tell us something? Doesn't the incredibly skewed statistics that reveal that African Americans and Latinos are overwhelmingly the targets of this "tough on crime" stance tell us anything? The fact that the "crimes" in question are non-violent and of dubious "criminality" in the first place?

I would very much like someone to explain to me a self-consistent position on this issue. Carping about North Korea and Iran and Cuba seems a touch..hypocritical from my perspective.

I heard that the meeting with Clinton was very emotional. I can't even imagine their feelings.

I did think to myself that Clinton was a good person to send because he was also big enough to hug both women. I'll bet he made them feel very safe.
