This Is Insane, and Grossly Disrespectful to the POTUS
Posted by KATHY KATTENBURG in Breaking News, Media, Politics, Society.
Jul 26th, 2009

The House is considering a resolution demanding that Pres. Obama apologize to Sgt. James Crowley for saying he “acted stupidly” in the arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) will introduce a House resolution on Monday demanding Obama retract and apologize for remarks he has made about Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley this past week.

Obama had said at his prime time press conference Wednesday that Crowley had “acted stupidly” in the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, a racially-infused case which has sparked a national debate on race and policing.

The president refused to back down on his involvement in the case, but appeared in the White House briefing on Friday to say he had called Crowley to explain that never meant to insult the officer. (Obama also called Gates on Friday.)

McCotter’s resolution would demand Obama “retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident.”

The resolution will come after an escalation in the Cambridge case the past two days after the president’s initial statements on the matter. The nation’s largest police group, the Fraternal Order of Police, blasted Obama for his remarks about Crowley and the Cambridge police.

There are no words or expressions that are adequate to this. Jaw-dropping? Too cliched for something like this. Has this ever happened before? That one political party in Congress has proposed a resolution to demand that the President of the United States apologize to a private citizen for offending him?

Are there absolutely no grown-ups left in the Republican Party? None? Aside from anything else, Pres. Obama did apologize, in effect. He acknowledged, very clearly, that he made a mistake in using those words. My God, even the police union is satisfied with what he said!

1. A. Not like it's gonna pass, and B. Obama is already doing all he can to smooth it out, so the GOP
is showing their ass again by pushing the issue past its resolution.

They're getting pretty good at that. Showing their ass, that is.

18. The Speaker will never let it come up for a vote
but maybe if there was a rider attached that the POTUS would only apologize after Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Gonzales/Yoo have apologized personally to every family that lost a loved one to their wars (on all sides), to everyone wounded (on all sides), and everyone detained/tortured/tapped/surveilled (on all sides), then there might be a vote taken.

12. Republicans are trying to stoke racial tension, that's why they can't let this issue go
Whether it's about Sotomayor or gatesgate, the GOP thinks that stoking racial tension is the only way they can take back Congress and the White House.

They know they can't really win on the issues, that's why they will NEVER submit a serious health care proposal. They got nothing.

Race will be their strategy going forward.

46. "Race will be their strategy going forward"
as it has been since LBJ signed the Civil Rights and Voting rights Acts.
Their under lying message has been Vote for us to keep minorities in their place or they'll rape your mothers, wives, and daughters.
Nixon's Law and Order theme was code for keeping minorities in their place through police power.
Reagan and Bush The Elder pushed traditional values which was code for keeping minorities in their place.
Bigotry isn't selling like it used to sell in the bad old days.

One would have to be bitterly power hungry to choose the latter.

All reason has been lost in politics.

It started with Clinton's ridiculous impeachment. (that I can remember)

Then they gave us 8 years of Bush Jr, who got a pass for being evilly human. Didn't matter how stupid, evil or cruel his behavior, anything he did was accepted, even adored for the stupid fallible human aspect of it.

Now they're back to grasping at the ridiculous and juvenile.

This kind of shit makes me want to scream, seriously scream.

Edit: typo

47. Dems are weak
They put up with this kind of crap and whine about how unfair it is...just like they did with the years of Clinton's persecution. And, when they have a legitimate cause to go after the thugs...Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, etc., they want to "look forward" and pretend nothing ever happened. Obama needs to be taught how to play the game of politics before he makes any more concessions to the bullies.

You bet it's disrespectful. Especially now when the president has kind of put a lid on the "controversy" with the beer-at-the-White House invite.

i don't think it will go anywhere though, it's just too absurd... - or if it does, then we're just effing FINISHED, and there is simply no more hope for us as a country!

what is even more sickening and what has much deeper implications though is the fact that the corporate whores of the M$M absolutely brazenly HIJACKED the debate on health reform, bailouts and all the serious, VITAL issues, and instead blabber non-stop about this absolutely ridiculous, absurd non-issue. it makes me sick. the M$M propaganda is DISGUSTING; all they want to do is to obfuscate real issues, distract/"entertain", misinform and brainwash people. :puke: (sorry, this is the first time i ever used the puke smilie, but this is exactly how i feel right now. :grr: )

p.s. oh, and btw if you want an example of something equally absurd and outrageous and disrespectful to the POTUS... we don't have to go very far... think Clinton and all the bj/tramped-up-impeachment outrage and absurdity. :shakes head: we are one amazing country.

See, by answering that question that way, rather than no-commenting, Obama made sure that health care reform would proceed in a complete vacuum of attention, which is JUST what we need to be able to overcome the formidable powers of the insurance-industrial complex! As long as no-one's paying attention, we can overwhelm the lobbyists!

Three dimensional chess, I tell ya!
