DeMint: "We've defeated President Obama"

DeMint: Americans Are Beginning to Win the Health Care Debate
Says now is the time to work on common-sense solutions

July 23, 2009 - WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Sen. DeMint (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, made the following statement today after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) announced that the Senate and House will not vote on President Obama's health care takeover bill before the August recess.

"Americans are making their voices heard and beginning to win the health care debate for true reform, not a government takeover," said Senator DeMint. "No one should be forced into a one-size-fits-all government plan that lets bureaucrats tell seniors what pills they can take or tells moms and dads what procedures their child can have. Americans are calling our offices with a simple message: 'keep your hands off my health care.' That’s why I have introduced the Health Care Freedom Plan that allows every American to own a health care plan they control and keep the plan they have if they like it.”

Senator DeMint is the author of the Health Care Freedom Plan, which provides all Americans with access to vouchers to get personal health insurance. The plan also allows Americans to access more affordable health coverage across state lines and limits frivolous medical lawsuits.

“There are serious problems with health care today and now is the time to work on common sense solutions that reduce the cost of health insurance and make it available to every American. I will continue to fight for health care freedom and true reform – and against any government takeover – so that all Americans can have guaranteed access to a personal health plan that they can afford, own, and keep, forever.”

"I am very pleased my Democrat colleagues have now rejected the President's strategy to force through a bad bill before anyone has had a chance to even read it,” said Senator DeMint. "Americans can win this debate but they are going to have to continue speaking out. They know the promises the President has made do not match up with the policies he is pushing. Over the August break, they need to connect with their Congressmen and Senators and let know that Washington shouldn’t make their families’ health care decisions."

from Twitter: "American people are winning the heatlhcare debate, let's use August to fight for true reform not a takeover"

2. "My Democrat colleagues . . ." What a dick! This sort of schoolyard behavior . . .
Is a big reason that the 'Licans have been losing over the last few election cycles.

And, sadly, gutless Reid and thumb-fingered manipulatrix Pelosi are one reason Dems have been losing the big fights since 2006.

4. A fine example
of bi-partisanship. Thanks for being part of the problem Senator!
And if Washington shouldn't make family helath care decisions, then why does the GOP fight the right to choose?

Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 09:17 PM by KakistocracyHater
would refuse, it was for 90 pills instead of 30. She said the insurance company would not allow her to determine the number.

the Right must be thrilled! No one else is. They live in their own world, the "media" & the Country Club Class. I totally ignore tv news, perhaps we should consider doing what tmz has done & get a tv show; I'd prefer Nader in THAT position, he used to be made for that-Pro Consumer. Or perhaps a small printed mag, distibuted to those without internet or phone internet access.

Could THIS be the GOP's (next) "Mission Accomplished" moment? Just a day ago they were crowing that Obama was about to have his but he didn't (as if anybody really expected him to, of course). Methinks Mr. DeMint (and other like-minded Repukes) are premauturely shooting their wad. :eyes:

19. DeMint is the Pukes' Demosthenes, who stood on the floor of the Senate
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 11:26 PM by saltpoint
in Athens and taunted "the barbarian" Phillip II, branding him a vulgar, witless thug, Phillip's army being arguably the best trained army in history notwithstanding.

Upon Phillip's murder, the same cocksure Demosthenes stood on the same floor of the Senate and taunted Phillip's son Alexander as a brat, an insolent child, a puerile hothead.

Some very few weeks later that insolent child, astride the warhorse Bucephalous and leading history's best trained army, was camped within easy striking distance of Athens.

Demosthenes' taunting turned to a whimper and then faded out altogether.

DeMint gets his moment to bellow and tantrum. And then he loses the debate.

20. Good! I am glad DeMint made this remark!
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 11:51 PM by quantass
Healthcare is not a game and certainly not an arena to roll over and let the republicans have the floor ONCE AGAIN. Its time democrats start acting for the people and stop being wusses ALL the time. This minor setback is a GOOD one, especially these new remarks coming from DeMint. If democrats want healthcare you got to be like republicans and wine, kick, and scream your way until you get what you want. "Always be Closing" (Alec Baldwin of Glenn Gary movie)! I know this is asking too much of democrats but jeez just a little push back because this little burp was nothing compared to what is in store in the coming weeks -- blitz TV of ads and non-stop MSM free promos for why you shouldnt have lower healthcare.

One thing i respect about republicans, they know how to sell snake oil. Never would i think you can con the people into going against their best interests. Either the American people on the whole are stupid or the entire democratic body is.

It's 2009 and the circus is in town again.

It takes a lot to be considered the wackiest politician in South Carolina. Senator DeMint is giving it an earnest effort.

nothing like next election. What an absolute piece of shit. Between out of work former furniture factory workers being told by Sanford he wants to reject billions in stimulus to DeMint saying those same impoverished citizens don't deserve health care? Well, FUCK THE GOP!
