Lies about middle class tax cuts
The Bush tax cuts are an abomination and should be removed like a cancerous tumor before it is allowed to grow and consume even more of the economy. The tax cuts that everyone keeps talking about go away after 2004. Poof! No more middle class tax cut. And on top of that, the middle class gets screwed even more by the alternate minimum tax, which reverts back after 2004.

2. While generally true, one can work up an illustration where 50K and
under folks are hit by AMT.

Unlikely - but that will not stop the ads that demand another tax cut next year.

3. Sheesh
I'm in the middle class. I don't like George Bush. I do like that my stock portfolio is going up.

John Edwards has pledged to protect my tax cuts, along with cutting taxes on my investments.

BTW, I don't make enough to enough sniff at the AMT.

4. Answer me this.
I will ignore the goes away in 2004 part because I do not know the validity of that, but I will research it and get back to this thread.

Why should my family have to pay one cent more while we fix Bush's mess. Dean is right. I got essentially no tax cut because the expenses in my family went up at the same time. The problem is that Dean's taking away my tax cut will not lower those expenses right away. I will have to pay those higher expense without the tax cuts to offset it. Why would you want to do that to my family. We live on a tight budget as it is. We may have not needed those "paltry cuts" before, but because of the higher end cuts, we sure them now.

I say, reverse the high end cuts and give my family the protection we need for a time until Bush's mess is fixed. Oh and don't think you cn make an argument about giving me health care and college tuition because I am already a college grad, my kids are 2 and 4 and I already already have health care. And since Dean isn't talking about universal health care, he is not helping me.

5. The corporate loopholes and the top 1% ones, yes.
General Clark has a plan for this.

6. The cuts aren't the problem...
...the problem is the regressivity they created.

You can progressivity by eliminating only the cuts people earning over, say, 200K got from Bush.

There wasn't enough progressivity before 2001-2002, so Bush has given Democrats a gift with this. Smart Democrats should take it.

7. I'm kicking this because of Bush's radio address today
Bush confirmed that the middle class tax cuts go away after 2004 in his appeal to make his cuts permanent. Repealing of all of Bush's tax cuts will have *NO* effect on middle class taxes because they are already set to expire. It is not a tax increase, no matter how you want to twist things around, and the assertions by the other candidates and their supporters are not true.

9. Then don't vote for Dean
He's already said he doesn't want any of the Bush tax cuts. You can be sure they'll go away permanently with him. I don't know how people cannot see this guy has blown it.

11. Then it needs to be revenue neutral.
Making the tax cuts permanent should be offset by increasing or eliminating other tax cuts.

24. His posts have been confusing
He thinks Clark is a war mongerer. He thinks Clark is loyal to Reagan and Haig.

He lets us know this after he said he was seriously considering voting for Clark.

14. I'd say subsidized health care talks pretty well too
Having my children decently educated without having to pay to put them in private school... yeah, that would talk pretty nice

Having fully-funded police and fire units to protect all that great stuff I bought with the refund... yep, that talks real sweet.

Not having my children have to go into debt to pay for Bush's spending now... oh, that would say a mouthful.

Maybe you should spend less time focusing on what you got back in the tax cuts and start thinking about what it cost you.

Then how much "choice" are we going to have about whether or not to use private schools?

22. News flash: the schools are running out of money RIGHT NOW
They've been cutting back "unnecessary" programs for years. And Bush's "No Child Left Behind" fiasco insists that they improve without giving them any resources with which to do so.

23. google
school closings budget

You'll see all kinds of stories about how schools have cut the year short because of budget shortfalls.

Schools run out of money all the time. If you bothered to do a little research, you would be educated enough to not make ridiculous claims.

21. So you've never driven on public streets?
Never had police protecting your neighborhood?
Never benefitted from public education?

Nothing pisses me off worse than people reaping the benefits of public spending but denying they owe anything to anyone. Go buy yourself a fucking island if you think you're all you need.
