In the second picture, I note that all three guys have (ahem) the same light brown skin color. Yet Obama is recognized as being half-white, while Mays and the Air Force guy would be "black". The one-drop for race is one of the more obscene ideas America has come up with, all in an effort to avoid the realities of race and slavery in this country.

It seems like the only people that identify Obama as half anything are republicans. I am black, and I don't know of any black people that think of him as half anything. His mom was white, and he was raised by his white grand parents, but for all intent and purpose, Mr Obama is a black man.

in our culture, we "self identify."

For us, it's not the one drop rule, it is how you identify within your family and within the community.

Unless I missed something, Obama calls himself Black / African American.

As far as I know he never tried to identify as White yet clearly, he was not ashamed that his father was African American.
He was equally comfortable that his Mother was White.

He seemed comfortable being with his grandmother and his grandfather.

Until the time of "I'm Black and I'm Proud," many Black Americans found that they could get better jobs if they could "pass" for White.

My uncle lived in a White world from the age of 18 until he died.
He looked Whiter than White.

My grandfather had straight hair and blue eyes. My grandmother, that he absolutely adored, was dark Brown and typical Black features. There was never an issue about it ~ he self identified as "Negro."

Now,it seems that this new generation doesn't care if they are "Black or White Or, Chinese or Mixed or whatever.

I'm proud of this generation ~

It's more than a little ridiculous that the last guy needed a jet, an aircraft carrier, a flight suit with a padded crotch and 5,000 sailors who just wanted to go home, and he STILL didn't look tough. The new guy just needs a pair of jeans and a cool-looking jacket... :patriot:
