I love Ed Shultz!!!
He is kicking ass in his OP Ed saying that now the spiness dems in congress can't whine anymore about the 60 votes. That he doesn't see Franken being bought by the special interests. That Franken WON the election by courting every single vote without the help of special interest groups. That OBAMA MUST come back and bring the change he PROMISED he was going to give us during the campaign and that NO MORE BULLSHIT!

He also said Imagine what the republicans would have done with a 60 vote majority that they (repubs) played hardball and said theyhad a mandate with 52 votes!. that it is time for DEms to step to plate and do what the american people voted them to do!

Ihave not seen such a truth telling anchor like this one BEFORE ON TV!!

BRAVO FOR ED AND FOR MSNBC!!

14. I agree!
I've heard several dems complain about not having 60 votes. Now that they have them (depending on the health of two senators) there should be no more excuses... But we have a lot of conservadems in red states to worry about.

19. Depending on the issue, we can struggle to get 50
Anybody that puts too much stock in having 60 in the caucus just wants to bitch or isn't paying attention. Hell, at least 10 (and probably more lie 15+) could be in a party with Collins and Snow and would be perfectly consistent, baring more resemblance to themselves than the majority of Democrats or what the Republicans have devolved into.

The real breakdown of the Senate is much closer to 34 or so to varying degrees liberalish Democrats, 6-12 moderates, like 17 old school Republicans (mostly in our caucus), maybe 4 real conservatives, and 33+ batshit reichwing loons.
In order pass anything even with 50 votes we must have all of the moderates and some of the old school Republicans. This is a coalition 60 not a party line in any real sense.

Some might call this excuse making but I call it reality. When most here are talking about "OUR" votes, those number in the 30's. WE have to start giving up and in to get to 40 and it is silly to pretend otherwise.

24. I find a little of him goes a long way
I agree with him on most things, but I am really tired of the Howard Bealization of cable news. From 6 am to 10 am and then from 5 pm to midnight, MSNBC bombards me with deeply opinionated and often loud talking and bombastic "hosts" who don"t host a thing but instead spends 75 percent of their airtime telling me what THEY think about various topics - day after day after day.

I think this is a lazy, cheap way of running a network - since it takes work and thought to actually gather and present news.

I like Shultz, but I'm not interested in being harangued daily, even by people I like and agree with.

I'm really tired of it and now tend to just turn it off.

Enough already!

I am not sure how much longer this type of channel format can be sustained. CNN and FauX began this crap, but MSNBC has decided to put it in hyperdrive. People can only take the constant arguing (with no real solutions discussed) for so much. I find myself watching less and less cable "news".

They all talk about the same issues time after time, the same damn guests and the same viewpoints repeated ad nauseam.

and yell and say see, liberal programs just can't make it on TV or Radio....We told you so....

Now given a shot with a few progressives on MSNBC & radio and people are always bitching...oh I don't like Rachel's personality, Olbermann is too egotist Bill Maher is so crude, I can't take much of ED it hurts my ears so I don't watch I'd rather surf, Stewart is too gross & offending....Oh Malloy, now he's too brash that's someone I just can't listen to when he tells the truth it's too mean & harsh for me...Michael Moore, oh, I just hate him, you see how he always twist things against the republicans, they aren't that bad, come on...

While the republicans have the lions share of TV & Radio over 90% you don't hear them biting oh I don't like Hannity, but I love Savage...Oh I just can't watch O'Reilly or listen to right-wing republican radio....

Progressives are fucking babies, bitching & complain because a liberal on TV isn't EXACTLY - EXACTLY what they want so they say fuck them I won't support them...spoiled fucking prima donas self obsessed who believe they only their opinion is important...and that must include me as well.

I can't stand the people who don't support "liberals" on TV or Radio just because they "Hurt" their ears.

Give me a brake!.. Let's see how much their wallets, ears and life will hurt with a right wing neo-conservative every day spewing lies.

Even if i have chores and things to do around my house, I always turn the tv on during ED, Olberman and Rachel. I might not sit around to watch them every night but i know i am backing their fight!!

38. "I know I am backing their fight" - you pinpointed the problem
Television "news" isn't supposed to be about fighting and taking sides. It used to be a presentation of the news, not a daily food fight.

I find it very frustrating that, after a long day at work, I can't just come home and watch the news. Instead, I have no choices on television but so-called "news" shows that are really shoutfests that focus on one or two topics - topics that have likely been covered ad nauseum for the past several days and don't even constitute news.

It's a disgrace that every 24-hour news channel is filled, not with news or even anything enlightening or educational, but simply offers people a chance to hear the same people parrot their opinions back to them throughout the day and night.

36. This has nothing to do with "progressive v. conservative" or not wanting to support liberals
This has to do with the denigration of supposed "news" channels that have become nothing more than fora for ranting and raving by opinionated commentators.

Had you read my post carefully, you would have seen that I said that I actually agree with Shultz, et al. But just because I happen to agree with them does not mean that I want to listen to to them yell their opinion at me hour after hour day after day.
