Franken: I am not going to be the 60th Democratic Senator;
I am going to be the second Senator from Minnesota. And, apparently, one of his first job would be to vote on Sotomayor in the Judiciary Committee. Great presentation Senator Franken.

2. There are only 59, including Franken, Democratic senators. Sanders is Independent.
Specter is a bit of a throw-up, although he may be a better Dem up to the end of his re-election campaign to try and get Democratic support.

13. Sanders is to the left of the entire Senate, he is, for all intents and purposes, one of us

19. Problem is there are about 15 who aren't with us.
That means we need about 5 Republicans. There aren't very many Republican moderates left.

8. Why do we cheer when a senator puts their constituents first - we condemn some senators for it
Although I completely approve of Frankens statement - his constituents come before party loyalty

14. Depends on the "constituents"- are we talking voters or Lobbyists?
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 05:20 PM by Dr Fate
Even red-state voters can be convinced to side with the mainstream as opposed to siding with conservatives.

9. I hope Senator Franken gets to vote on four more Supreme Court nominees made by our President
Antonin Scalia and Anthony Kennedy need to be replaced before President Obama leaves office. I am sure Ruth Bader Ginsburg will retire before the end of the year and Stephen Breyer will retire before the 2016 election. It is looking good for Liberals to regain control of the Supreme Court.

18. Indeed! Some Congress critters dislike him for being so genuinely concerned about people's lives.
One of the few principled people in Congress who'll care more about ordinary people rather than interest groups. It's a good day. :hi:
