Today's health care target: Sen Snowe represents the health insurance industry, action needed
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 10:25 AM by debbierlus
I am going to be posting action alerts for DU'ers on health care - I hope you will kick & recommend these alerts. The point is to give us a tangible action that we can do each day to fight for true health care reform. Today's activity focuses on Olypia Snowe of Maine -

Residents of Maine and all concerned citizens should give her office a call at 1 202 224 5344. The statement that Senator made to the Associated Press should cause an uproar - every Sen who spouts this tripe should be publicly humiliated for these types of statements.

From a Associated Press interview in Portland -

From a article today in the Berkshire Eagle -

Sen Snow said it would be unfair to include a government run health insurance option that would take effect immediately -

"If you establish a public option at the forefront that goes head to head & competes with the private health insurance market - the public option will have significant price advantage...

In sum, Sen Snowe is oppossing a public option because it will be more affordable for the American citizens then private insurance, and that would be unfair to the insurance companies.

So, she is representing the interests of the insurance companies over the American people

Their profit is more important to her then a more affordable public plan.

The senators such as Ms Snowe aren't even trying to pretend where their loyalties lie. They state it baldly and publicly...

No unfair competition to the insurance industry.

She should be humiliated.

If you care about health care and if you are FED UP with this type of 'representation' - please call the number above & let her know that you are disgusted. If you live in Maine - let her know that her statement has renewed your committment to elect a candidate who stand for the people and you will be actively donating and campaigning for that candidate when the day comes.

You can also state that you will be actively emailing friends, family, and letting them know where Sen Snowe stands.

Btw, this is one of those Republican senators who DOESN'T have her party affliation on the front page. She is not only a bought corporate stooge, she is a coward who is afraid to let her constituents know she is is a Republican.

And, if you have not yet done so, CALL THE WHITE HOUSE -

1 202 456 1111 and DEMAND a public option or demand single payer but note that you support a PUBLIC option, if the government won't support a full public plan at this time -

Thanks and get on the phone!

1. Just how can they make this claim that a public option would have an unfair advantage
over private insurers. My guess would be that unless private insurers are FORCED to offer coverage at a reasonable rate to older people and people with preexisting condition, that the OPPOSITE would be true.

2. Because people are going to FLOCK to a public option and the sheer mass of numbers

Will be enough to drive prices lower...

People HATE the insurance companies.

Most people don't want anything to do with them. They are afraid of them. Even full coverage does not gurantee you coverage when you need it.

4. All of us on DU can indeed make a difference - and it doesn't take but five minutes

Also, you can email the action alerts to your friends & family for added impact.

5. I will do that too. I also included my senator Dianne Feinstein in today's calls.
