The GOP, the Media, Obama and Iran... This is the truth!
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 04:37 PM by aaaaaa5a
Over the last several weeks the Obama administration has been blasted by the GOP for his handling of the Iran situation. Perhaps more interestingly, the media picking up on the criticism from the Republicans, created the narrative that "Obama was not tough enough on Iran."

CNN released their latest poll today. First Obama's approval rating was 61%. Down just 1% point from May. The last two National Network polls are from ABC (65% approval rating) and CNN (61%). So I guess the storyline about the President losing support was a wee, bit exaggerated.

Anyway, back to my main point.

Here are CNN's findings in regard to what the American people think about Obama's handling of Iran.

1) Obama's criticism of Iran

A) Gone too far 9%

B) About right 56%

C) Not far enough 33%

Yup, that's right folks! Only 33% of the Country believes Obama's response to Iran hasn't been strong enough. It's Interesting how it's the same 30% or so that is against the President on everything. That's called the GOP base! And that number is not going to change. More importantly, 56% think the President has been perfect on Iran. And amazingly, 9% think Obama has been TOO CRITICAL when it comes to Iran.

Does the media reflect these realities in their coverage? I bet with more objective reporting even that 33% number would be down 5 points.

Now here's where it gets good!

When JUST Republicans are polled these are the results.

2) Obama's criticism of Iran (Republicans only)

A) Gone to far 11%

B) About right 38%

C) Not far enough 47%

Yes, it's true. Among Republican supporters only, more of them (49%) think Obama has played Iran perfectly or been TOO TOUGH than believe he has not been tough enough (47%)! Even among GOP supporters, the margin between those who believe Obama has been correct, compared to those who think he should be tougher, is just 11 points.

Do Republicans understand their constituency?

Will this be the focus of "Morning Joe" tomorrow morning?

And here's the whopper!!!!!

When asked "Should the U.S. openly or strongly support the Iranian demonstrators?" 74% said NO! (24% said yes) And of those numbers, 2/3 of Republicans agreed, it is best for the United States to stay out of it!

This is just another classic example of the so called "liberal press" trying to manufacture a storyline or issue, that never existed among the American people.

Remember these examples when the Health Care debate really starts to heat up.
