John Kerry jokes: "Too bad Sarah Palin Did Not Go Missing"

Massachusetts Sen. Kerry has joined the fraternity of jokesters using Sarah Palin as a punch line.

Kerry was meeting a group of business and civic leaders in the nation's capital when he decided to play comedian, according to The Boston Herald. He was talking about the disappearance of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, the Alaska governor's Republican peer.

"Too bad," he said, "if a governor had to go missing it couldn't have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin."

the only thing he was saying is that she should have gotten out of the spot light. It is hard to find a Republican who has not said something worse of Senator Kerry.

48. You are absolutely correct. After the lies and smears directed at Kerry no one should have anything
to say about a comment many Americans would agree with. It appears some of her fans and Palin herself are trying to make her untouchable by creating unnecessary outrage.

16. Tell me exactly what this says about Palin that is bad
This is NOT Letterman's joke - this is just saying it would be nice if she took some quiet time. This was before an affair was known to be involved and there was never any concern - on the part of his staff or wife.

29. Kerry has plenty of class, even Obama has made comments that are more negative than this one
This comment was said at a point where the Governor was gone - no one knew where he was - but his wife said she was not concerned and said he had gone somewhere quiet to write something. His staff said they had no concerns and suggested he was walking teh Appalachian Trail. Kerry comment was an informal throw away line to a group of MA political people who had come down to see him.

It says nothing negative about Palin, her family, her career etc.

15. Good! Bring it on!
Seriously, the more Dems who gin up the outrage from the base over poor Sarah, the more likely she could move into position as the frontrunner in 2012. I used to think she didn't have a shot, but the more she plays the "poor me" card, the more the GOP base gets its back up defending her. They might start thinking they have to nominate her just to show how much they love her. Oh please please PLEASE let that happen!

31. Gore is not funnier than Kerry
Kerry in person has a great sense of humor, but as with many people, something funny at the moment said, is not in the retelling. There have even been short bursts of humor at committee hearings.

This was not a joke in the sense of having a punch line. This was an informal gathering where the context is not even known.

To: RobinMasters
Poor Kerry, a failed VP Candidate who no one gives a damn about. He is SO jealous of Sarah, 10 months after she was introduced to the world, 8 months since the election, and she gets talked about more then Obama. I asked my Mom if she knew who John Kerry was, she said “Never heard of him” and I said “My point exactly.”

John F..nnnnn.. Kerry-

““Too bad,’’ Kerry said, “if a governor had to go missing it couldn’t have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin.”

If John went “missing” no one would notice, he has never done anything constructive anyway.

Palin is a standard bearer for some intellectually very attractive ideas — self reliance, limited government, and respect for god and the country’s basic law, for example.

The only similar thing Kerry can point to is his opposition to a war that, arguably, should never have been fought — or that should have been justified to the population more fully at the time.

However, Kerry’s lies and mis-statements have undercut any moral high ground he may have occupied.

Kerry’s complaint about Palin is a little like that of a lazy person, who is intensely jealous of an industrious neighbor.

Sanford’s fall does give an opening to NRO two favorite Presidential candidates - Mitt Romney and Mitch Daniels.

A Haley Barbour and Mitch Daniels ticket might be intriguing. Two competent problem solvers.

Mitt Romney is laying low and hoping more scandals to taint his rivals, so he can step into the limelight and save the conservative movement.

Many RNC operatives think the way to improve the brand is to move away from Palin, Rush, Newt, and Cheney. They think Meghan McCain and Jim Huntsman are the future of the GOP.

70. HuffPost had to RETRACT what they said about Kerry. Guess you only saw the lie.
One would think DUers would be able to recognize an apparent smear to undermine the TRUE ADVOCATES of public option by now.

Kerry's been the one strongly arguing for the same position Dean is for, and even reading letters from Dean's site into the transcripts of the meeting.

Someone is getting pissed at Kerry for doing this and took conversation out of context to distort his position with a willing blogger expecting the gullible kneejerkers to turn, yet again, on the real advocates for their positions.

53. Kerry inserted his foot into his mouth on this one.
A Senator ought not to wish, even jokingly, that a governor or anyone else for that matter, to go missing.

54. Is that a new rule?
The joke is funny, but in the scheme of things fairly irrelevant (to all but the RW lame asses). For it to elicit a comment like this borders on absurd.

60. My comment had nothing to do with the topic on hand.
I made a joke about Kerry's 2004 campaign but then thought that it had nothing to do with what's being discussed here so I deleted it.

58. Kerry and others may well despise her
and maybe Palin despises many in the Senate but it's one thing to keep an opinion private and another to crack wise in public. The only thing I see coming from Kerry's joke is that it puts Palin in the news again.

71. And I very much disagree with you calling any woman a "b*tch". I am
no fan of her politics but name-calling such as that is wrong.

68. Technically so. On the other hand, consider that there are Baptist
ministers in this week's news praying to the Almighty for the death of President Obama.

The tone and content are strikingly different things.

73. In the context of that moment in the Sanford cse "go moissing"
was not in any way ominous. His staff and wive were unconcerned, speaking of hiking and going somewhere for quiet to write.

67. If anything, Kerry was offering a charitable narrative. Far better that
Palin wander off into the wolf-rich Alaskan wilderness.

That would be a fitting tale.
