Listening to McLaughlin group, and commentaries on Obama's health care..when he was asked if taxes to increase health care options was redistributive (aka socialism) O'Donnell, came back with maybe the most to the point commentary I have heard.. simply "YES," it is redistributive.. all government is redistributive.. taking from one group to benefit another..

Stopped and thought about it,, and yep.. roads a good example, my tax money goes to DC, does not build roads in Iowa, but maybe Maine.

Going to remember that one.

1. That's the entire raison d'etre of government.
Matters not the type of economic system involved, they redistribute money in one way or another.

But this bottom to the top crap needs to stop.

2. I just saw a DVD of an episode of "The West Wing" that he wrote.
It was the fictional presidential debate between Democratic Congressman Santos and Republican Senator Vinick. It pretty much exposed the political mind of O'Donnell and it was about the issues we are struggling with today that are still unresolved today with our corporate whore Congress. Maybe the next TV show on government should be called "Capitol Hill". Aaron Sorkin and Lawrence O'Donnell, Jr. should be co-producers and it could be about what goes on in Congress. It can be educational as well as to those who flunked their Civics and Government classes. It can show all the sordidness behind the scenes, the campaign contributions, the lobbyists, the back room deals and so on.

3. And if government doesn't redistribute the wealth, private corporations do.
I saw a tattoo once of two stick figures with guns pointed at each other's heads; the caption was CAPITALISM. I think that symbol depicts the logical basis of what capitalism is; now extrapolate that foundation into extreme conditions, economic, social, geo-political, environmental . . . what do you get?

Government? Business? Which one do we want making decisions for ALL of us?

5. All Economics is Redistributive...He missed a chance...

Everything we do is redistributive. There is absolutely no difference in between money going to the top, or smaller percentages going towards more equality. This whole angle of 'redistribution' or public and private spending is old and tired.

People need numbers and graphs, like the pie chart the other week that showed how much 'nationalization' has gone on since Obama...which amounted to something like 1% of the economy.

EDIT : Lawrence O Donnell is one of the very few people I enjoy listening to. Fucking hero really...
