President Clinton was keynote speaker at Indiana Jefferson Jackson Dinner Saturday nite.
Just got home from it.

We had to endure a few minutes of Senator Bayh's mindless inflated ego.

Clinton provided a history lesson on why everyone from Nixon to Obama were able to win. He also pish pash the pundits that question Obama doing too much. And that so far Obama is doing everything he would had done.

Clinton explained that the Republican Party (if I heard it right) that they were losing their support since 1998. That the morning after the 2006 election after he woke up he realized the only way a Democrat would lose the 2008 election is if a convicted Democrat was nominated.

1. "so far, Obama is doing everything he would have done"
Yup, and that's the problem, in a nutshell.

2. Clinton likes to talk in layers.
I would be interested in hearing his meaning of convicted. And his thoughts on who is not convicted and who is. Also I would be interested on his idea of the forum or court in which his comment of conviction takes place.

Comments on his view of his own status would be interesting also.

3. I don't know for certain, but perhaps he was talking about the
multitude of DOJ/FBI's investigations and prosecutions into dem candidates/elected officials and their supporters that were ongoing during the bush years.

The guy said our current system picks people then tries to find a crime to charge them with. That is part of the problem. Because so many laws are not enforced, yet so many exist, that selective target prosecutions are possible. Creating total loss of justice.

Also when they target they accompany a smear campaign, many times they make things up about people so other people think they are really bad, and since it comes from some authority many people just believe it.

By making up false stuff, they want to get someone a reason to say something bad about the person they are targeting, but what it really does is change their perspective, so that when they think about some brief encounter with the person, they add different meaning by assumption and filling things in with their perception of things.

And even if it does not lead to a conviction, the smear still ends up destroying economic and social support systems of the person, and that is part of the purpose, they believe that makes target unable to effect things in the future.

Here is a little personal story. (although millions have had it much worse then me.)

It happened to me years ago, although I never was arrested, they did pretty good at smearing me. (I do not think they were just government agencies, it included a vigilante group) I laughed at them and told them what they could do with their false accusations. They wanted me to bow down and grovel to them, I did not bow to them, I refused to be mean to others, I refused to hate, and I did not give in. I believe that was my moment.

That was when they showed me that there was too much injustice in the world, and they created my desire to figure it out and fix it. Not for me, but because there must be justice, with compassion.

I often hope that something I do will make a difference in the world, maybe make it a little better for someone. Its tough to make a difference, but it is easy to try and make a difference. You just have to make a choice of who you want to be, that is what is important.

A poem I wrote back then.

I have seen both men great and not, do deeds of good,
I have seen entire communities come together
their soul purpose, helping their neighbor,
I know this is possible.

More may choose to be this way,
far away living lives unseen,
some may choose hope over fear,
courage over despair.

And even if confined by my lowest days and weakest thoughts,
if despair were to knock on my door to tell me it can't be.
Regardless of all that is said, all that I might see,
I know that I have the power for at least one more person to believe.
That one, I can always choose to be me.

(Edit: I wasn't thinking of it at the time, and just so people know, 'the one' has symbolism that is different in my poem, I am not saying that is somehow me, I am saying anyone can be part of the 'one', or share in the gifts of beauty of 'the one'. Nor do I say any person is 'the one' )

7. Note: In my view bowing is not a physical thing
It is selling out integrity, or doing what you know is wrong for another person, because of fear or greed or so many other things.

8. sadly you are right, there is far too much injustice
it takes special folks to fight against it and for others, it takes a great deal of personal strength. They do try to destroy their targets in any way and in every way they can.

the poem is wonderful, thank you for sharing it.

6. So, he didn't cancel after all.
Some people had been concerned that he might cancel due to Hillary's surgery.

I'm glad you had a chance to see him.

:D
