The M$M drops the ball (on Iran)
Edited on Sat Jun-13-09 08:21 PM by HopeOverFear
The US media has been horrible in its coverage of the elections and its aftermath. NPR had more coverage of the European soccer last night and of the Stanley Cup this morning. It was evening in Tehran before Amanpour did a short piece for CNN. Even Keith Olbermann had a sleepy dude from the New America Foundation on … without even bothering to explain what his credentials as an Iran expert are. With an estimated 750k Iranians living in the US and several major academic organizations devoted to Iranian Studies, the unwillingness and inability of the US media to cover these elections properly is truly indicative of a larger problem in Irano-US relations. US press coverage has been embarrassing and shameful.

1. Completely agree. Think about it. We're getting news from twitter and facebook.
I am having to accept that twitter and facebook are real news conduits, while CNN and TV news still have a huge blind spot for stories that require effort.

5. The MSM feels that the weekend isn't newsworthy, so they all take it off.
To be fair, though, CNN still does live coverage - even though it's horrible.

8. Our stolen elections weren't newsworthy, either. Especially 2004's.
I remember that no cable news outlets would talk about the irregularities for many, many weeks afterward.
It took even Olbermann forever to dip his toes into the waters surrounding the Ohio Recount.
Print media did only marginally better. Local conservative Ohio papers ridiculed the supporters of the recount as LW fringe crazies..

MSM apathy to election integrity anywhere inside or outside the US is so disgusting, but not atypical..

under cover to get this story right like the BBC and other credible news organizations.

Our country is down a shit hole and we need help getting out.

10. One twitterer is reporting what is happening at an Iranian university
Looks like a standoff between what he thinks are Intel ministry riot cops and students who have taken over part of the University.

11. Everyone who voted for Mousavi should go on a "money strike"
Spend NOTHING...barter with each other wherever possible. ..walk, buy no gasoline , take no buses.

They should opt-out and watch the economy wither even more, and then buy "normally" for a week, and then repeat it.

It worked in Montgomery Alabama..maybe it would work in Iran.

I doubt that the ayatollahs who really run the place want civil insurrection on their hands, and that's what they are headed for if nothing is done about this fiasco.

12. I think they're ready for it and have planned for that contingency
They are like all revolutionaries after a generation or two. They become the evil dictators they supposedly threw off. Nothing will get through to these guys like a bunker buster on all that hard work enriching uranium.
