Republicans Threatening To Boycott Sotomayor Hearing? Fri Jun 12, 2009 at 06:30:07 PM PDT
Now that the Republican plan of attack to paint Sonia Sotomayor as a racist have fallen flat, it's on to Plan B:

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ) told Roll Call yesterday that he and his Republican colleagues on the Judiciary Committee may boycott Judge Sotomayor’s hearings if Judiciary Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT) does not cave to right-wing demands to delay the hearings:

“As the hearing time approaches we will evaluate whether we can make that deadline,” Kyl said, explaining that if Republicans do not feel they can adequately question Sotomayor they will try to meet with Leahy to make a plea for more time.

However, Kyl, who serves on the Judiciary Committee, did not explicitly rule out the use of delay tactics, including a Republican boycott of the confirmation hearings, if an accommodation cannot be made.

So the question is, will Leahy cave to Republican demands like he did before the confirmation hearing for Eric Holder?

1. Can they hold hearings without them?
I don't know Senate Committee rules, but is it necessary for the minority to be there anyway?
Whatever the rules, I certainly hope Leahy holds these whiners to their word and makes them boycott. Leahy's the chair and HE says when the committee meets. Let the republicans look like tantrum-throwing wankers in front of the American public and let's see how that plays out. I think with all the real problems that must be addressed, Americans will have little patience with that nonsense. I hope the Dems grow a pair and show the pugs who's boss. God knows the pugs, when they were the majority, shoved it up the Dems asses sideways for six years .

:spank:

10. They have before on something else
I forget what it was, but this session the GOP has already made good on a threat to boycott some hearing, and then after the hearings were held without them demanded they hold another hearing before the vote. I'm not really sure what happened after that.

3. Well...I didn't see that characterization as sexist at all..

If anything, it exhibited offensive ageism against nursing babies...

Nonetheless, i've edited the title for you masuki. Cheers!

EDIT: No problem. This was a curious charge coming from you. Didn't you, just yesterday, post an image of some topless woman dancing on Letterman's desk?

11. Oh Please, Oh Please, Oh Please, Oh Please.....
This will be a train wreck of epic proportions for the GOP. The American people may be divided on a lot of issues, but one thing they don't cotton to is political temper tantrums. Old Newtie shut down the government in 1995 and Bill Clinton made hash of him. Even when the GOP was in high dudgeon over blow jobs in the Oval Office, the Democrats gained seats in the House/Senate in 1998 and it wasn't until the last precincts came in from the West Coast that Newtie was even sure that he still had a job...
