I don't care who you are, but what was done was OTT and out of line. In the end, even though I abhor the woman, I feel Palin was in the right on this one.

He didn't write the joke--someone on staff did. Letterman probably doesn't know one Palin daughter from another, and may have not even been aware that she had more than one.

He's just an entertainer, not a news reporter or an elected official. Any apologies should be demanded by his bosses, if they feel one is required. And they will if it appears to affect ratings and ad revenue, because money is after all the bottom line.
