1. Lucky you!
Letterman apologized for his comment, but the palins responded by saying this:

"The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show," said Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton. "Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."

8. Did they really say that about Willow?
Poor, poor Palins. They are such victims. NOT.

18. You know why I think Sarah is doing this, as it's getting more and more ridiculous by
the day and making her look like a petty fool.

Well, she's a bully. And she's trying to exploit this bad joke as a way to silence the late night hosts and other comedians from making fun of her by showing that the rabid right will pick up her torch and start boycotts and email campaigns, etc. if anyone dare say anything about Bible Spice.

It will backfire. Letterman just signed a new contract and he's not going anywhere. And, as we saw with the whole McCain thing, this just seems to fire him up more....I hope Letterman starts doing one of his serial bits about her. It'll drive her nuts!

2. Oh dear God, I knew I shouldn't have tried to summarize. Ignore. Sorry. :) n/t
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 05:38 PM by OneGrassRoot
I knew I shouldn't try to give anyone a summary. I always mess it up. Sorry. :) Corrected to show that Bristol was NOT at the game.

Not sure if you know the beginning of the story, but he did some Top 10 Palin stuff. The brouhaha stems from one of them being something to the effect of her daughter getting knocked up in the seventh inning by Alex Rodriguez.

They wigged out and have a huge statement on their website evidently. They thought he was referring to their 14-year-old daughter, who attended the game with Palin, evidently. He thought it was Bristol.

Letterman read their long statement on air last night and apologized, saying it was a lame joke but that he certainly didn't mean anything harmful and wasn't referring to the 14-year-old in the joke.

Sorry if I botched that. By the time I finish typing, someone else probably has provided a perfect summary with links! LOL

How was YOUR day is what we want to know?!

It might take a while. I filled up a 4GB card with video and pics. Oh, one little teaser here . . .

I got a couple of good shots of Air Force One flying home. Can't wait to post those! Also, several pics of "Little Barack" and his mom.:)

4. They "knew" he was not referring to the 14 yr old..They saw a opportunity
"make some hay", and to toss out words like "pervert", "rape", etc and portray themselves as the perpetual victim.

5. Bristol was NOT at the game.
The daughter at the game was Willow and she's 14 years old. Letterman's lame "jokes" were sexist and inappropriate, even if they had been directed at Bristol.

10. The hypocrisy on the LW boards over this issue is driving me crazy.
If any RW creep had made the exact same "jokes" about a Dem woman and her daughter, we would be all over their asses and rightly so. But, if it's about Palin and her children then we heartily approve because we don't like her politics.

It just makes me sick to see the hypocrisy. WE on the left should know better!!!

12. Also bullshit.
If there was a Dem woman who paraded her unmarried pregnant daughter around as a sterling example of family values, she'd deserve the same disrespect.

The hypocrite is the woman in the Alaskan state house.

Seemed okay to let him get his daughter pregnant, but the Palin's are offended by a joke. They are the biggest hypocrites going.

15. NO. I think I would be equally offended by
a left-winger who exploited their children the way the Palin's did. And I can certainly laugh at jokes about left-wing politicians. And I heard Dave's jokes. I thought they were about Bristol, not Willow. And Bristol (you know, the one who WAS PREGNANT!!) is a legal adult making the rounds on her own and is fair game. If Willow were a "knocked-up" tennager, and the joke had been clearly directed at her, it would be wrong. But Willow's not. Bristol is. And the joke is fair.

23. Yup.. if the same joke would have been made about Chelsea Clinton
Everyone on here would be boycotting, writing letters, etc.

I totally agree.. it was tasteless. Letterman apologized for it - so I do at least give him some credit for that.. but I agree, we need to have the same outrage on both sides - not just the liberal one.

11. Bullshit.
Bristol made herself a public figure and has to take the lumps that comes with it. There was no reason for Letterman to know that it was NOT Bristol that was at the game. And in any case, the joke (lame as it was) was a slap at Sarah being unable to control her teenage daughter.

14. The operative word is 'teenage' not 'daughter'.
Teenage - as in, not responsible for making life decisions such as getting knocked up, then paraded around as an example of family values and the efficacy of abstinence only sex ed.

19. To loosly quote Joe Strummer....
Before you step out into public, be sure you you have a 4" thick skin.

Or as Truman said "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

I wish the Palin's would do just that.

He repeated the Top Ten he first told on Tuesday that the Palin's were offended by. He took his time going over them.

21. It was clear to me
that Letterman was visibly moved by the reaction, otherwise, he would have ignored it, or just made a few smarmy jokes about it. I think having a son has made a difference in how he views the world.

Anyway, he did a joking apology, he seems to regret not knowing that Willow was with her mother, and not Bristol. He did not apologize for the joke that he made about Caribou Barbie directly, and that's proper, as she's fair game.

I figure that he did not know that Bristol was not accompanying Palin, or he would not have made the jokes that obviously targeted her. He realized too late that his jokes looked like they were aimed at the 14 year old, and he clearly wanted to back away from that.

30. Just saw Sara Palin exploiting her 14 year old daughter in order to get sympathy.
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 06:31 AM by Mass
This woman is despicable. Certainly, Letterman joke was not in best taste (though not sure if it was more demeaning for Rodriguez or Bristol), but my guess is that nobody misunderstood who he was talking about (particularly after Bristol made a fool of herself being a spokeperson for chastity and being on the first page on People) and for her to bring her 14 year old daughter in this story is sick. :puke:.
