"Renegade"
I'm reading Richard Wolffe's book, "Renegade," and came across a passage I thought you all might enjoy. It made me chuckle.

The context of the following passage is the media's bizarre infatuation and obsession with Sarah Palin, and the Democrats' constant handwringing about everything.

Page. 227

"His friend Marty Nesbitt shared with him an e-mailed photo, which summed up their collective response to the weak-kneed Democrats. It was a picture of the candidate delivering his convention speech, with the caption, "Everyone Chill the Fuck Out. I Got This."

Obama chucked. "Exactly," he said. "That's exactly how I feel."

*****************************************

ROLF. They dug that picture as much as we did! I'm not quite finished with the book, but I give it a thumbs up!

1. I think of that photo a lot
when I see posts questioning where the heck Obama is going/doing/handling different situations. He's moving forward, not as fast as many want, but he is making progress on many fronts. I love how he's giving the Repugs enough rope to hang themselves -- an excellent example of Rope-A-Dope. Is he perfect in my eyes? No, but no human could be.

I think we need to Chill the fuck out -- Obama has this!

3. Did a DUer create this image?
If so, he or she needs a T-shirt at the very least. That image is classic.

6. Yay!!!!
That photo got me through the dark days of September .... and it NEEDS to be in the Smithsonian! lol

I'm too lazy to actually READ books, but I do enjoy audio books because I can listen to them on the way home from work. I dont guess you'd want to call me every day and read to me from Renegade, would you? (har har)

12. I've been a voracious reader most of my life.
But I too have also become addicted to audio books. I just checked Audible.com, and saw that book there. The Amazon reviews look pretty good, so after reading this thread, I'll almost certainly order & download it.

18. i hadn't noticed that!
I'm probably childish, but I always feel a bit "cheated" with abridged books. I'd like one narrated by the author, but I'll almost certainly get the unabridged version.

At present, I'm into the third and final part of "Look Homeward Angel",with "Naked Lunch" next. That last one used up my Gold Plan, so I'll probably renew before ordering that "Renegade".

19. Well, I just downloaded it...
... and listened to five seconds worth. The narrator's voice is not as pleasing as Wolffe's would have been, but I guess I'm getting more gos. so it's a fair trade off ...... FIFTEEN HOURS WORTH!!! lol It'll take me a month and a half of trips home from work to listen to the whole thing lol.

22. That settles it! I'll renew shortly and order it!
I'm "Gainfully Unemployed" (aka: retired), so I could theoretically finish 15 hours off in a day!

To others here: Give that Audible.com website a THOROUGH look-see! There are books of ALL description, and to ALL preferences, from Ann Coulter to Noam Chomsky, and MUCH in between. And almost all the the narration is excellent. If you sign up for a Plan, books that are quite expensive cost about $11 a pop. And if you have a favorite MP3 player (including a cell phone), check the Devices link on that webpage and see if it's supported.

10. And the thing is, he always did
How many times did the handwringers post here about something that was "spinning out of control" and "why isn't Obama doing _____?" Then, inevitably, Obama would do some smooth move about two weeks later than would completely crush whatever the current poutrage was. T'was a thing of beauty.

I still have this photo in my favorites.

11. There's all kinds of interesting nuggets in this book. One of favs
comes a couple days after McCain fake-suspended his failing campaign. At Obama's request, Bush invites Obama, McCain and a bunch of Congressional leaders to the White House to talk to discuss the economic situation. We all heard the reports in the press about McCain acting like a petulant child, refusing to speak at the meeting and getting pissy with Obama. The book gives a little more detail than I recall from the press. He comes off as a bitter, angry child who's big pout is more important to him than the country's economic downspiral.

*After refusing to speak during the entire meeting, and trying to belittle Obama with snotty remarks, he interrupts Obama's dicussion with Paulsen by saying, "if the Senator is quite finished, I'd like to thank the President for calling this meeting . . ." and then, "When pressed for his opinion of Paulson's plan, McCain said he had not read the proposal, which only ran to three pages, Obama snorted dismissively and rolled his eyes." ROLF!! God, that must have pissed off the old man even more! I would have loved to have been a fly on wall for that!

*Obama's entire team was slackjawed when McCain chose Palin. They knew right then and there that it was a sign that McCain's camp knew how badly they were failing, and choosing Palin was a stunt which would surely backfire.

*One more interesting thing was that Obama never once criticized or said a negative word about Hillary. His aids felt a great deal of disdain for her when she refused to concede after the final primary, but Obama defended her and chastised them for criticizing her.

13. That showed rare wisdom and foresight!
My impression of Hillary had always been that of a woman OBSESSED with achieving Presidency. Now? I feel that she believes her life's work will be achieved by helping Obama becoming the GREATEST President! Yes, considering the circumstances, even greater than FDR or Lincoln!

20. "Trying to belittle Obama with snotty remarks" was
a big part of McCain's campaign strategy.

Thanks for the snippets, I can't wait to read this book.
