Open Apology to one and all.
Earlier today I was in to quite a donny-brook concerning the economy and Obama's handling of same. Things have been tough and I had a temporary lapse in faith. I was rude to several DU'ers, but those very folk talked me down (Maddow style) and were far more supportive and polite to me then I deserved.

I guess DU is not only a source of news and information but a darned good source of therapy when things get tight and faith wanes.

Of course I support our president and will have to work on keeping an eye on the big picture and hope on the horizon.

I beg forgiveness for my behaviour and hope that I will be forgiven. To forgive a lapse is human, to forgive the use of the term donny-brook is divine!

(Mods:I know this is not necessarily a GD:Presidential subject but the sin was committed in this forum)

1. K&R - it takes a big person to admit they were wrong,
and it takes a BIGGER one to do so publicly.

4. I agree, but when a bad day results in your swinging the bat for
the other team, its time to reconsider and take stock.

24. I love YOUR name. And my quote is from the old Frank Perdue ads.
It would have been funnier if it appeared directly under the first response.

for good, ill, or otherwise.

12. nah. people's interpretations of words have power.
If I believe everyone on the internet is a supreme dipshit, including me, then nothing anyone writes about me here will ever bother me for more than the short time it takes to write an entertaining flame post.

9. I wasn't aware of the donnybrook but you
are so sweet to apologize and I think it's necessary to say what you don't like about the policies so far but still have support for the president.

He needs our help as well as the criticism.

19. Thank you. I have also gone thru that. Some times the frustration level get so high
that you want to lash out. Anyway, It's happened to me. I try never to attack an individual but only policies. Well, maybe attack a freeper, or republiCon, or O'Reilly, maybe Hannity, limbbaughs, Arlin Specter, Joe Lieberman, some times ba-ba Baucus, alway Frinestein, Landrieu, Ben Nelson, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Beck, Sauvage, Malkin, Faux Friends, Killer Joe.....I could go on but probably losing your attention.

21. Don't know what you said, so maybe an apology is good, but "lapse of faith" disturbs me
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 10:44 PM by Political Heretic
"faith" is something we shouldn't have when it comes to politicians. They are supposed to work for us, and as employees, "faith" doesn't enter the equation.

They either are about the people's business, putting working class Americans and main street first of privileged interests and the financial elite - or they aren't.

"Support the President" is an interesting phase, because we tend to take it for granted that we all agree on what it means. That phrase could mean, we want the President to succeed, hope that he does, hope that we have a President that is willing to do what it takes to stand up to the political and corporate establishment and do what is best for ordinary people. That's how I feel. I want the president to succeed, as I just defined it.

But if support means that we excuse bad or capitulating policy, or start with a default of being an idolizer of the MAN instead of concerned about the OFFICE - that's a problem. Any politician can deliver horrible policy that must be OPPOSED - both Democrats and Republicans are capable of that. When they do, who will fight back if we dont? If we're too busy feeling guilty because we had a "lapse of faith" - then how will social change that is so desperately needed ever come?

22. "Lapse of faith" may have been a poor choice of words but
my embarassment due to the incident is two fold. First, in the he of the argument, I realized that I was arguing points that I did not necessarily agree with just to get the goat of the ones I was arguing with. The contest of the argument was greater then the substance of the argument.

Second, I was picking and choosing words from President Obama and taking things our of intended context to support my arguments. The discussion was concerning the economy and slow recovery. President Obama has said (paraphrase) 'We will all have to sacrifice and it will take time, but things will get better'. In my frustration I was lampooning the 'things will get better' while skipping over the 'sacrifice' and 'takes time'.

In addition to purposefully offending folks that I enjoy interacting with on this board, I was acting and arguing like a damned right winger- right out of the Limbaugh book ofstupidity.

To dwell no longer, it stands that I have benefitted from recognizing my stupidity and am now prepared to support what I support and argue against what I disagree with and will be more concious of my positions.
