Republicans thought they were doing great during FDR's years
the problem was that nobody voted for them for 12 straight years...Fast forward to 2009...the GOP is all over TV saying that they are doing great, that so many leaders are coming out of the woodwork to help defeat Obama. Some GOP talking heads are saying with a straight face that the polls are turning in their favor... :wow: In what kind of parallel universe do these people live? Just amazing...

1. They're still buying into Rove's
mentality that if you aggressively voice an alternate reality, the public will believe it.

Actually, I think it goes back to the 70s, so it's older than Rove.

2. That's not really accurate. They didn't win the presidency, but they made gains in congress.

3. That's actually true. And FDR turned right in '37 to accommodate it.

Then he tried to 'purge' conservative Dems in '38 and failed.

FDR: Did not turn right.
ER: Did too.
FDR: Did not.
ER: Did too.

4. They made enough gains that they effectively killed the New Deal.

10. Yes, FDR did turn right in '37
His attempts to balance the budget to appease Congressional Republicans led to the so-called "Roosevelt recession".

6. Not until 1938
But they were still in the minority.

Alf Landon actually won the Literary Digest poll in 1936. That poll had corerectly predicted the winner of every election since 1908, but alas, it was wrong--big time--in 1936.

8. As all of the dirtbags agree, THEY, are framing the debate.
This is Newts contribution. He is the master of the BIG LIE. They dont need real reality. As that unatributed Bush official said, they create their own reality, and as you analyze it, as you will, we will make more reality. Al the fuckheads including that pathetic washup Dick Morris the Rethug say that all the repugs have to do is wait for the fail. Then heap on the condemnation. I think I'm going to get STFU embossed on my fist, to serve as a politeness reminder.
