The Obama Effect In Lebanon and Iran
As the Vienna Philharmonic finished its annual outdoor program at the Schonbrunn Castle, the guest conductor Daniel Barenboim exclaimed to the 50,000 gathered that he had a new hope because of the speech by the American President Obama on that day. The statement was met with a roar of approval. The next day, every major newspaper in Vienna carried the transcript of the Obama's Cairo speech. Apparently, they heard the President in Lebanon and Iran as well...President Bush with his Axis of Evil bluster has been replaced by President Obama with his clear diplomatic message of resolve and hope. It seeems as though an American President may be affecting the Iranian elections again, this time positively. From the recent polls it looks like Ahmadinejad is in trouble. His main opponent, Hussein Moussavi, is a reformist who is running an Obama style campaign attracting a huge youth surge. Moussavi stands for equal rights for women and decries Ahmadinejad's foreign policy as "adventurism, illusionism, exhibitionism, extremism and superficiality." In this election, Obama appears to be helping the candidate who is real relations to America. The American President is a role model instead of a straw man.

Likewise in Lebanon. As the New York Times reports, until recently it seemed as though the Iranian backed Hezbollah party would win the majority. Now it looks as though the coalition that is more favorable to America will retain power.

We don't know the exact effect that Obama is having on these elections. But it appears from the 2004 results that the Cheney/Bush presidency bolstered the enemies of America. Four years later it looks like the Obama's presidency may do the opposite.

Americans would do well to remember this four years in the future in our own elections in 2012.

3. The Lords of War will be very unhappy.
Obama better be careful, the US cannot be seen as a force of Peace. This is intolerable.
I'm sure Obama has a super-secret plan to keep the region destabilized and war-profits Up.

;)

Speaking of The Overlord of War, it's nice to finally stop fuming over Halliburton no-bid contracts since the Obama administration cut them off soon after he became president.

9. I said the exact same thing to my GOP father-in-law and he refuses to ever see me again
He does nothing but watch FOX News and listen to Limbaugh. I tried to reconcile with him and proposed simply not talking politics when we are around each other but that was not good enough, he hates me and refuses regardless of what it does to his family.

These are the type of people that FOX and their ilk produce, fucking disgusting bunch of people.

11. indeed, draconian interventionism and extremist movements have a symbiotic relationship
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 04:07 PM by Douglas Carpenter
both need each other to build their own domestic support.

Dangerous and imprudent interventionism feeds extremist movements and extremist movements feeds imprudent and dangerous interventionism in a cycle of cynical manipulation of their own domestic constituencies producing dangerous policies and threatening the peace of the world while undermining their own respective national interest.

15. They bankrupted America and collapsed our economy after 9/11 just as OBL wanted.
Anyone who voted for IWR shares a measure of blame, too. Political opportunism replaced political accountability with tragic results.

The bushcheney effect was so deadly stupid that it was only to be supported by the brainwashed in America and the corporatemediawhores which collaberated in said brainwashing.

There were thoughts of this during the primary and the general that we were HOPING to Realize:patriot::patriot::bounce:B-):patriot:

10. Its such common sense, really. An American President
that does not say things like "Axis of evil" and does not take such a strident tone in foreign policy is easily more tolerable to other countries and therefore effects who comes into power in those countries.
