Gingrich: The Civil War means nothing if Sotomayor is Confirmed
by FleetAdmiralJ
Share this on Twitter - Gingrich: The Civil War means nothing if Sotomayor is Confirmed Fri May 29, 2009 at 02:11:39 PM PDT
Yes, he really said that in an email he blasted out:

Gingrich warns that all of American civilization is at stake here. "If Civil War, suffrage, and Civil Rights are to mean anything, we cannot accept that conclusion," he writes. "It is simply un-American. There is no room on the bench of the United States Supreme Court for this worldview."
FleetAdmiralJ's diary :: ::
So, apparently, The Civil War, fighting to give women and blacks the right to vote, and ending discrimination are all made meaningless if Sotomayor is confirmed to the court. Amazing what one liberal justice replacing another can do to the world and history itself!

And he does this by starting off his email by quoting Martin Luther King.

He also goes on to say this:

True justice is blind. It does not consider one's religion, wealth, race or in this case sex, family origin and ethnicity. To do so would be unjust.

To put someone on our nation's highest court who believes these traits should be considered in cases before the court, would be wrong.

1. True justice may be blind, but "true Americans" aren't.

9. I'm thinking he wants to be a nominee for Pres down the road, and
if he pulls this off (getting Sotomayor to withdraw) that will be his cred. Just a tinfoil thought here.

15. If he runs in 2012, he's going to hear this played
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and
over and over and over and

then the party who used to listen to him will laugh him off for the buffoon that he is.

8. The Civil War gave WOMEN the right to vote? And that asshole taught history?
Jesus, so all that suffragette bullshit was just .... what? A walk in the park? Not needed?

And blacks "voting" wasn't the reason the civil war was fought. It was fought to preserve the damned union. Slavery went by the wayside as a byproduct of that war, because wars, like elections, have consequences.

Man, he's stupider than we thought, now, isn't he?

13. No, I think he was giving a list of Civil Rights advances.
He mentions three things in this order: (1) Civil War, (2) the 15th and 19th Amendments, and (3) the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s & 60s. It's punctuated funny, but not entirely clueless.

He's trying to con people into thinking Sotomayor is only being nominated for demographic reasons. It's not like they can go after her on substance. Newt just knows the dumbshits will swing the 2012 nomination.

16. Jesus, for want of a comma, or whatever!!! The thing reads rather oddly.
I just can't get with this Twittery stuff!!

Well, if he wants to play the demographic game, I've got two cards to play--Sandra Day O'Connor, and Clarence Thomas--both nominated by Republicans.

No "demographics" there, naaaaaah!!!!

Newtie is an unrepentant racist. And there are plenty of us who are old enough to remember just what he and his galpal, now wife, were up to on the Speaker's couch, on the Speaker's conference room table, and under the Speaker's desk. If he keeps poking his fat little head up out of his burrow, maybe, in time, more people will want to revisit all that--and the contentious SECOND divorce, too.

11. But if she stays on the federal appellate bench, then all those dead Yankees was worth it.
Am I the only person who, when Newt Gingrich says "If X happens, then the Civil War means nothing", wonders which side he thinks made the futile sacrifices?

17. PSA: CDC announces major Kool-Aid recall
A spokesperson for the CDC announced today that there is a major recall of all flavors of Kool-Aid because of a probable contamination problem. The contaminant has not yet been identified but the spokesperson said, "This is really dangerous stuff. It makes people go bat-shit crazy after drinking as few as two doses."

It is believed that the problem was discovered early because it severely affected some prominent and well-known Republican talking heads; cooler heads in the party are in full damage-control mode, trying to save the party from mass defections of women and Hispanics as a result of the bat-shit crazy comments made by Newt Gingrich, Tom Tancredo, and various other heavy consumers of the popular drink, which is favored by rightwing comedians and politicos. The spokesperson said, however, that the problem may actually have existed for some time now, affecting thousands of dittoheads, but nobody noticed because they're all bat-shit crazy anyway.

The CDC advises that if you have consumed any Kool-Aid, you should call 911 or go immediately to an emergency room to have your stomach pumped and the pressure in your brain relieved. Only after you have taken the appropriate emergency medical precautions should you return any unused product to your retailer for a refund.

Federal prisons for assholes like Libby and Liddy, and the other corrupt politicians. So they must mingle with the regular Joe's because that would be the only fair thing to do.

21. It goes right to the heart of the matter: Conservatism is now officially dead...
first, it infected the GOP then becoming a mental illness during the Bush Administration until irrationality devoured the Republican spirit with Obama's election and now a Sotomayor-induced implosion. Just incredible! :wow:

28. Anyone else notice how the biggest bigots in the WHOLE DAMN WORLD always quote MLK???!
Edited on Sat May-30-09 04:59 AM by Number23
Or Coretta??? And it's usually in an effort to explain, rationalize or even deny their own bigotry?? And nine times out of nine, that bigotry is towards racial minorities, but PARTICULARLY towards black people???

What the F*CK is up with that??! If Coretta and Martin had ANY idea the kind of trash that was running around the world quoting them ad nauseous (yes, I mean nauseous) they would rise from the grave just to kick somebody's ass.

many are beginning to feel the same towards those who jump at every chance to quote the Kings.
