Question for historians: Have any other war criminals in history bragged about their crimes?
I see that Bush & Cheney are almost daring someone to apprehend and prosecute them. They have resorted to a daily routine of publicly, usually using the mass media, confessing to crimes which could get them imprisoned for life, or executed.

Has anyone else ever done this? Hitler? Did Pinochet go on Chile TV and tell everyone that he had to torture people to save the nation? Duvalier? Franco? How are these confessions going to affect their eventual trials?

1. I'm pretty sure they did
but probably not as publicly as our war criminals do.

4. How about Eichmann?
Edited on Fri May-29-09 11:58 PM by Adsos Letter
Emil Fackenheim renders the quote as: "I will jump into my grave laughing because the fact that I have the deaths of five million Jews on my conscience gives me extraordinary satisfaction." http://www.h-net.msu.edu/reviews/showrev.php?id=3372

an alternate quote,(unsourced) from Wikipedia: "I will leap into my grave laughing because the feeling that I have five million human beings on my conscience is for me a source of extraordinary satisfaction." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Eichmann

Both quotes are attributed to 1945, before Eichmann fled Germany.

At least they finally managed to hang this guy.
