Serrano in tears over Sotomayor pick
@ 9:54 am by Michael O'Brien

Rep. Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.) was reportedly in tears Tuesday morning over the selection of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to join the Supreme Court.

ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos tweeted after speaking with Serrano, a native of the Bronx like Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and third woman nominated to the Court.

Stephanopoulos wrote:

Just spoke with tearful Rep Jose Serrano, Like Sotomayor grew up in Bronx projects. For Latinos, this pick has force of Thurgood Marshall

3. I am African American and I know what Marshall's appointment
did for us.

There were tears and happiness all around -- it was thrilling.

My aunt and Justice Marshall were great friends and I grew up hearing wonderful things about him.

Baltimore Maryland took such pride in his accomplishments.

What pride this appointment should bring to those of Spanish heritage as well as others of good will.

She grew up in the projects of Bronx speaks amazing things to so many young children out there that they too can be anything they want to be! Isn't this the world we want to create?

10. A nitpick with the linked article
Sotomayor isn't the third woman nominated to the Court"; she's the fourth. The first two, who were confirmed, were O'Connor and Ginsburg. The third was Harriet Miers. Bush nominated her in October 2005 and withdrew the nomination a few weeks later."
