First Lady Michelle Obama plans for summer vacations, Camp David-style

The President’s wife says she’s refusing to make the same mistake that former First Ladies made by not using Camp David as a beat-the-heat retreat.

“The most unexpected and uniform advice that I got was, go to Camp David early and often ... universally, across the spectrum,” our First Lady says in an exclusive interview with Time magazine, out Friday.

“It’s the one place you can go where you feel some level of freedom and an ability to breathe. I think every single First Lady felt that was an important resource, an important opportunity, an important thing for the health of the family. And some found it later in their terms than others, because you get so busy.”

In addition, the First Lady proposes to follow in the footsteps of the Kennedys and the Clintons when she takes her brood to the idyllic shores of Martha’s Vineyard in August.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, the Obamas will reportedly rent a house for two weeks at the month’s end in East Chop, a section of Oak Bluffs. Michelle may just shuck oysters and have clambakes with Hil and Bill Clinton, who still have a home there, as well as Vineyard residents Carly Simon and James Taylor.

Bet the WH press corp will be a happier group this summer not having to hang out in Crawford for a god-awful hot month.

1. Good luck to the press trying to find a hotel room on the island

in the summer. Usually have to make summer reservations for MV accommodations by end of January before everything is booked up.

It was just the thought of 100 so-called reporters trying to muscle their way into hotel rooms against impossible odds that gives me a chuckle. It's a nice place to visit, but getting a ferry spot for a car and getting a room in the summer are no easy tasks. The laid back islanders will probably rent them a broom closet to sleep in.

I used to stay there with friends in college. Even back then it was expensive. We crammed 10 people in a small 3 bedroom beach house.

So basically Michelle made this "proposal" in the imagination of whichever esteemed "journalist" wrote this piece?

I bet the WH press corps was hoping for elitist, un-american Hawaii again.:P
