Cheney really is scared. But of what?
A few comments on the GD Cheney Speech thread caught my eye:

"I think this an absolutely unprecedented event. I have never seen an outgoing administration absolutely slamming the present administration like this. It's just blowing my mind."

"I have to think that Obama has a plan for allowing this ...like he knows something that POS Cheney does not know...and it is gonna come out and shut down this kind of crap."

"No, I think Cheney knows good and well what it is... This is kind of an intuitive flash based on his speech, so take it for what it's worth: There is SOMETHING that is still classified that he knows about, and he's terrified that it will be declassified and made public any day. It's hard to imagine anything worse than what's come out already, but this will be so ugly, so damning, that Obama will HAVE to appoint a special prosecutor if he wants to retain any credibility at all. And then it's all over for Cheney.

But it's like he's playing chicken, taunting Obama and daring him to release it. That's what is so weird...it's almost suicidal."

"Me neither...that one thing that's obvious is the Cheney is desperate. He's scared to death of SOMETHING...something we don't know about yet, but I have a feeling we will in the near future."

All we know is what has come out of the court cases. Dick, no doubt, has his sources in the DOJ. Something wicked this way comes.

17. I agree, he's never been too concerned about the present

...let alone how it will look in retrospect.

5. Cheney has gone INSANE. That's what's worse than being scared.
Like the last few days of Reagan's tenure when the undiagnosed dementia was starting to kick in.

Dick Cheney is barking at the moon ... bat shit insane.

"Oh, he's out there ... he's really out there."

6. His speech today was like a last appeal for public support of the crimes of the Bush administration.
Edited on Thu May-21-09 12:49 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
There have been many, many articles in the US and abroad about how the torturers need to be brought to justice. He cannot have failed to realize that these calls are building to a critical mass.

You also have people like Karen Hughes saying "I was against torture when we talked about it" - oops did I say that?

11. He is scared of the hydra's head being cut off.
Cheney may soon die from his heart condition, but the beast must stay alive to keep their moles and policies in place. Even if only a certain percentage of Bushco's deeds are cleaned up, they still come out ahead, especially if there are people buried deep furthering the Bushco agenda.

15. I think Obama is waiting for him to shoot his mouth off, and probably some of the
people who investigated the Plame case are still listening very carefully to every public utterance Cheney makes. I know a lot of DUers diss Fitzgerald, but my impression was that he knew Cheney was guilty of something and wanted to nail the bastard but thought he didn't have a solid case and knew he'd only get one chance to convict him. Cheney's big fat mouth may be handing him that chance, after all this time.

He is clearly out there without Bush's support. I never thought Bush would turn out to be the more sensible one.

21. Unraveling torture will lead to the mass murder.
Truckloads of dead bodies were turning up in Iraq every week. But nobody ever caught a truck hauling dead bodies.

KBR was hauling dead bodies.

"Bodies found in Baghdad (usually executed after torture) have shown the steepest decline, from nearly 1,000 reported in January to around 120 in December 2007."
