Senator Kennedy's Cancer is in Remission!
This is incredible news. The other good news is that The Lion is headed back to the Senate to head up health care reform.

Kennedy's cancer in remission

Sen. Edward Kennedy’s brain cancer is in remission and he is expected back in the Senate after the Memorial Day recess to spearhead healthcare reform, according to Democratic colleagues.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday that he spoke with Kennedy’s wife, Vicki, in the past few days and was told the 77-year-old lawmaker is “doing fine.”

<SNIP>

He is expected to lead a markup of highly anticipated health reform legislation in his first month back - one of the biggest bills of the year and a signature domestic initiative for President Obama.

15. My friend lasted from late October to early June
had surgery , radiation and chemo..and died on her 36th birthday..with her 7 & 4 yr old kids at her side

Of course a man of 77, is different from a 35 yr old, so there's no harm in using the words "remission" & "cure", since these cancers usually do return, but the advanced age makes it possible that "something else" could come along before the cancer does..

I have my fingers crossed for Teddy, but I am not 100% buying the remission just yet..

13. Congrats Teddy! May you live as long as your mom did, and annoy Repukes for another 20 years!
Not to detract from the good news, but since health care was brought up in the OP, I hope that the Senate realizes that it's the health care plan they have that made his treatment possible. And the same should be available to all Americans, not just Senators, or people named Kennedy.

14. Now that makes me happy.......
My Dad worked with him on Health Care reform way way back in the late 70s and early 80s, Senator Kennedy means what he says when it comes to Health Care and has been on this for decades. He is a man whose faults are all private, and that is as it ought to be for all of us. I, truly affectionately, wish him and the rest of the Kennedy Clan all the best.

16. Umm... Reid may have misspoke.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090519/D989JGJ01.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid became the latest Democrat to stray into rhetorical trouble Tuesday, botching statements on three subjects in one news conference - including the fragile health of the chamber's most senior members.

The Nevada Democrat reported that one of them, Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., was absent because he was receiving a new round of treatment for his brain cancer. Asked if the cancer was in remission, Reid replied, "As far as I know, it is, yes."

Kennedy's office refused to confirm Reid's comments or make any statement in response, the public silence a classic Washington disavowal.

Reid was then asked about Sen. Robert C. Byrd, at 91 the longest-serving senator in history, who was hospitalized over the weekend for an infection. Reid reported that Byrd was to be released from the hospital Tuesday or perhaps later in the week.

Not exactly.

"Senator Byrd is improving," responded his spokesman, Jesse Jacobs. "But his doctors, in consultation with his family, have not yet determined when he will be released."

Reid also mangled his party's position on the congressional news of the day, that Senate Democrats would join their House counterparts in withholding the money President Barack Obama needs to close the Guantanamo Bay prison until Obama comes up with a plan for relocating its prisoners.....

yikes

BOSTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid caused a stir Tuesday when he said Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's cancer was in remission. Hours later, his office issued a statement that seemed to backtrack from the remarks.

Reid said at a news conference in Washington that he spoke to Kennedy's wife, Vicky, and she told him Kennedy, 77, who is battling brain cancer, will be back the first week of June.

Reid was asked about Kennedy's health by a reporter and he replied, "He's doing fine. He's going through another regimen of treatment, which is not unusual. This is something that was expected. He wanted to have the treatment next week. They had to move it up a week, as I understand it," Reid said.

He was asked if Kennedy's cancer is in remission and Reid replied, "As far as I know it is, yes."

However, later Tuesday afternoon Reid's office backed off from the comment that Kennedy's cancer was in remission. "Sen. Reid will leave the diagnosing to doctors. But he does look forward to the prospect of Senator Kennedy's return to the Senate as soon as he is able," a statement said.

I heard on some local news program that when he was first diagnosed they gave him 90 days. Here's an article from the Herald..
